At first I was going to be all practical and say the raisin. But you know what?! The fuschia is amazing, and if you love the color and the ostrich, then you should get the one that makes your heart sing!

You can get a practical bag another year. Life is short. Fuschia is hot hot hot. HCs and H'birds pics just knocked me right into the fuschia camp. YAY

It will bring a smile to your face every time you wear it, and with 4 little kids to chase around, you deserve a fabulous and happy handbag!!!

you hit the point right on the head cobaltblu. its a choice between the heart and the mind! the ostrich is gorgeous and i love the color exactly. but its more fashionable and could wear out in a year or so. the raisin is more practical. its a nice, safe bag and guarantee a lot of wear for years. i could get the fuchsia ostrich and just get a raisin massai... raisin is just so hard to find and i'd hate to pass up this chance. based on all your experience, what do you see more often in stores? fuchsia ostrich or raisin anything?

Since I'm partial to pinks, I'd get the ostrich...I have a fuschia Kelly that is gorgeous and the color actually goes with a lot more than you imagine.....I must say though that I'm loving the raisin now too although not as much as the fuschia. I was offered a raisin Massai from my SA so if you decide to get one let me know and I'll give you the info.

You don't see either color all that often.

I don't agree that it is too fashionable. The color on fuschia ostrich is done just right that the bag will remain fashionable without being over the top. And it will not wear out. It actually deepens over time to a rich color that is stunning. I've had my bag a little over a year and I still love carrying it as much as possible. It really is my favorite bag out of all of my Hermes bags. The only problem with the fuschia ostrich, and I think this applies to any ostrich, the handles will get darker over time. But that really isn't a hige deal.

oh yes please! i've been searching for a raisin massai all over with no success. please pm me the info, thanks so much!

what kind of raisin bag do you have? i also have a fucshia kelly and it really adds pizzaz to whatever outfit i wear. being partial to neutrals, i can use fuchsia more often. but is it not an extravagance to have 2 fuchsia bags? that's what's worrying me...

hi nathansgirl! how does your ostrich wear in drizzle or rain? if you don't mind me asking, how hard was it for you to find your fuchsia ostrich bag? also, do you find it appropriate using it, say, to the mall on weekends, doctor visits, casual lunches?

Nice dilemma!
I do find the my 35 birkin in clemence to be very heavy - I only use it for work actually.
But I am not a fan of ostich - the bumps have always freaked me out, so for that reason alone, I would pick the 35.

hi tweetie! i used to think so too. my mom used to buy these bottega venetia wallets in ostrich and it freaked me out. i couldn't even touch them! but hermes does ostrich differently. it looks really good and not ostrich like at all. or maybe my taste matured over time? lol!:yes:

you find the clemence 35 too heavy then? urgh..i knew it. weight's gonna be a problem.

The kelly and the birkin [30/35] serve different purposes. The kelly draped on the shoulder or back of chair is perfect for cocktail parties, formal parties, restaurants etc. The birkin is casual - mall, doctor, lunches [where you can find a chair for it]. Fuchsia is your signature color, it sounds like. This way, no matter what the occasion, casual or formal, you can have the appropriate, gorgeous bag. So, i don't think it's an extravagance since they are for different uses. This way you could give your kelly some time off, since it is a special piece you will want to have forever.

Nope - I';ve seen it in H and it still creeps me out and I just turned 30! I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to acquire the taste for ostrich - I'm thinking of just taking the plunge to croc directly

Weight is such a personal thing, but the 35 was my first Birkin, and I was a bit disappointed that I wasn't using it more because of the weight. I love the volume it holds, but much prefer the weight of my 30s. I'm considering a lighter leather next time for the 35 so I can get the best of both worlds.

hummingbird -- i never thought of it that way...you have a valid point. now i'm 70% decided on the fuchsia ostrich!

tweetie -- have you considered getting a hac? i like the way it makes me look tall without the weight a 35cm birkin has. i have a 30cm birkin and a 32cm hac and i get more mileage out of the hac. it hold a lot more stuff plus the weight difference between the 2 is very slight. just a personal preference :)

I haven't had it out in heavy rain...luckily.

As far as drizzle, the bag might get spots, but they dry up pretty quickly. I actually spilled some lemonade on my bag back in October and you can't even tell. I think ostrich is the best Hermes exotic for dealing with water.

And it wasn't hard for me to find my fuschia bag. I just went into Hermes one day last May to see my SA and buy a twilly. S he told me they had it in the back. I was sold the minute I touched it. I take it pretty much everywhere that I feel like taking it...the mall, the doctor's office, work, lunch, anywhere. Seriously. I just don't take it to evening affairs. That's really about it.
