French luxury group LVMH offers to buy U.S jeweler Tiffany: sources

I’m confused on what is being phased out as well. I went to Tiffany’s the other day and the SA informed me they are discontinuing all silver and all home items.

Wow, would be very surprised, but who knows now with LVMH. Would certainly be sad to see them discontinue all their beautiful and classic, silver flatware patterns! And, they've also had many beautiful dinnerware patterns over the years, but haven't even seen those online for quite a while. When my store was renovated a few years ago, they stopped carrying all those types of homewares. Was sad to me! Maybe those of us who care about having these types of things is dwindling? We don't save them for special occasions, we use them everyday.

I have been away from this particular world for awhile and only just yesterday realised that T & Co. has been acquired by LVMH in 2021. This is not good news. Lots of fond memories associated with T & Co. and I am mortified to think about what this means for consumers. Any of you here can share how this impacts the products? Prices will increase all the time, and quality will decrease eventually, that is one thing I am sure of knowing how LVMH approach their other brands. Sad. Sad. Sad.

Implementation of an aggressive pricing strategy, aligning of prices with their other brands, collaborations with other brands (Pokemon, Nike etc), appointing of/collaborating with many high profile celebrities, pricing out/removing of lower lines, are just some of my personal observations.
Yah. This is not good overall.

You can see other companies are already following suit. With the US company Tapestry acquiring Versace, so now it is under the same conglomerate as Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Coach, and who knows what else. Someone is eyeing Chanel and Prada. Marni has already sold to another company. Dries van Noten is not designing anymore but sill creative director, but he is a minority share holder.

Eventually, what will be the difference between these so called luxury products and stuff from Walmart? Except the exorbitant prices?

This is probably a topic for another thread.

Good question how will these brands be affected by all these buyouts

News to me but I just saw that Fendi did a collaboration with Pokemon as well. LVMH must be procuring and cutting deals on behalf of all their brands.
Ugh. Fendi was my favourite brand in the early 2000s. Their designs were so fun and amazing. Out of this world. LVMH acquired 51% of its shares in 1999. It seems like after a few years of all good as before, brands tend to take a nose dive under LVMH in terms of designs and fashions. In my personal opinion, their designs became rather meh after around mid 2000s. Not in terms of profit, I am sure. As a brand they may be more well known and popular, and LVMH of course started selling brands rather than designs. I might post this in the Fendi forum too. I am so disappointed as I look around and I am wondering what is going on with all the brands! And what is going on with a sense of fashion!

I loved Fendi too. Fendi and Gucci were my first loves.

I can't say any of this annoys me or disappoints me. It is what it is really. I just buy what I love if I'm able to and when I can. When I can't, I enjoy what I have.

Good attitude.

I do not follow brands particularly. Just their aesthetics. So I did expect some ebb and flow as I explored other designers. But after LVMH took over many of them, I just can not seem to find the same excitement in any of the designs as I used to. So it is a bit frustrating WHEN I am looking for some.

Having said all this, I have in fact moved on to smaller independent crafts people I have never heard of. in both jewelries and leather goods. Sadly they tend to be very small with very limited stock due to production limitations when all done by hands with only a few pairs doing them each time.

Nothing is better or worse. Just different.

Which is why I am missing the more "luxurious" end of the art. Because now, they are all just brands....

I have noticed that they did away with their popular charms line and the engraving of the charms that used to be free is now super pricey. Just made me sad because years ago I started my daughter a charm bracelet and now there are very few to add. Seems as though they now charge more for simple repairs that they used to comp.

there was a charge for the engraving of the charms before LVMH purchased Tiffany's because in 2012 was when I purchased my Return to Tiffany's heart bracelet and I remember the extra charge for the engraving. But you are right about the prices are up now since the purchase.
