I thin it's 10-15 years earlier, so typical of those times
Makes sense :)
I thought it may have been newer since it's in excellent condition. Someone took very well care of it

Just as well since as you may know the resale of even vintage Ocelot is banned, certainly not exportable. I think the coat looks amazing as it is and doesn't need anything done.
This is true, I think there is a time restriction though? I have an ocelot fur muff and the owner told me that it was pre 1946? which made it legal...but I could just be gullible  It is very old for sure
It is legal to own just not to resell.

I'm going to whip it out later, there is a chance it's not even ocelot now that I look at oc pics. I don't remember those defined spots on mine :hrmm:

Can't wait, I'm going to look now lol
be back with pics

That is correct. Legal to own but not resell.

They certainly looked after it very well, you will look fabulous. My natural Blue Fox was my mother's from the mid-1970s, looked after but well loved. Nothing like the sewn together stripy scraps from off-cuts just a decade later that gave blue fox such a bad name.

Furs were made so much better back then, warm, heavy, and made to last decades. New furs I don't have as much confidence in

Here it is, what do you think? It is very old no doubt, the silk lining seems ancient, the fur is in ok shape, a bit dry but not on the verge of falling apart yet. Smells like an old mohair teddy bear, so 1940's may be correct. The fur feels and looks a bit different compared to my lippi's, but that could be the age. There's visible rolled "skin" on both ends.

Sorry for this bad pic, it was hard to balance a muff on one hand and an ipad in the other lol
My two lippi furs are in the background (the left one has pink dye so that's not the best reference)

I could be wrong because I'm certainly no expert, but your muff looks like Ocelot to me. One of my mother's long time friends has one that looks very similar & her's is Ocelot.

I love hand muffs!!! My sister & I each had one made from white rabbit when we were children. I remember carrying it to church, at Christmas & to holiday parties. I have no idea what happened to them. We were always very careful to take care of them....not let them get too much sunlight, keep dirt off of them, nothing spilled on them, ect. My mother was very strict about that. LOL I'll have to ask her about them.

I think it looks fabulous. How interesting re Ocelot fur, I still really like it whatever it's status to be honest.

Wow, this thread moves quicker than a fox itself [emoji16]

Cdtracing - love your fox trim, it looks lush.

Suzie - honestly I think that fur type is probably my favourite ever. I adore Lippi Cat fur. I don't own any but I remember trying one on once in a Saks salon in Chicago. It took my breath away but sadly so did the price. Stick with how it is but if you fancy a change get it changed. Perhaps add a different fur type as a collar? I think a nice dark sable would be amazing on it.

KittieK ... Love your American red fox. You have such a fine (and vast!!!) selection of furs. It looks lovely. I haven't seen this kind before.

I wore my new fox gilet the other evening. I got it online and it was lovely to wear. 3 girls asked me where I got it from and complimented me on it. Hope that doesn't sound too conceated but it was lovely to receive those compliments. I must confess after a few Prosecco's I was asked where I got it from and tipsily replied "a fox" [emoji23] Thanksfully the girl found it funny. Oh the joys of alcohol.

Here I am with my fox!

Ps, does anyone know what type of fox it is?

I think you're right (and the elderly woman I got it from), she swore it was ocelot. I looked at pictures of ocelot fur and the rosettes and pattern are the same as mine. Lippi cat isn't that distinct, and the texture of the fur feels different than my lippi's.
That would be great if you can find your childhood muff's. I love them, and most have a lil zipper pouch inside that serves as a purse. The ocelot one sadly does not, and its rope is missing, I add a chain through so it can be carried.

I have a fairly large muff collection, mostly antique and vintage, some new, including a rabbit Chanel.
Keeping fingers crossed that your mother still has yours

Beautiful! Looks very lush and "plump". Looks like blue fox to me? Online you can find some real goodies, and for way less than dept store over priced prices.
I got a few from ebay China. They have some really nice pieces and the quality is decent.
Soak up those compliments! nothing wrong with that! I chuckled at your alcohol induced answer hehe

@Prada_Princess.....I agree with KK. It looks like Norwegian Blue Fox to me, as well. It's a fabulous vest & the fur looks so thick & full. I love the fit & how it looks on you!!

Stunning! You look gorgeous!

And may I say I just love this thread and the rest of the fashion/ fur threads. So much knowledge and eye candy. And now I wait for cold weather to pull my furs out of storage. It’s been rather warm on the east coast of the US.
