I am a little disappointed. While working for Mulberry, Emma Hill brought us a heap of gorgeous designs and super favorites that turned into instant classics. And now this collection of...of...well, umm, let's just say the first experience is a little anticlimactic. Heavy, clunky lines and nothing that makes me happy seeing, no matter what the bags are named or priced. The hardware looks cheap and the "happy face" reminds me of MK and Mulberry fakes.

I was actually waiting for Emma's new line and was hoping it would've been priced at around the same point where Mully was before Bruno came aboard. Now we have these bags that look like Ralph Lauren meets Marc by Marc Jacobs meets any other designer on the market. Priced way too high for what they are - and they're nothing special to look at.

The colors are gorgeous, and so are most of the patterns as well. It's the designs and prices are not in line with each other.
I understand EH thinks she has to do something different than what she did for Mulberry to separate herself from the past but. BUT. Now, with EH gone, Mully has a totally different creative direction and Emma did win people over with the stuff she did for M over the years. Her style is unique, she has had impeccable taste in the past and a great instinct for what her customers want. That's what's so baffling about the Happy bags. I don't see Emma in them, at all.

The time and place for taking over the market gap Mulberry's "new direction" left is now, EH has the tools and the talent to do exactly that. Let's hope it happens, I'd LOVE to own a Hill&Friends bag in the future. Love Emma, love what she can do. Hoping to love what she does in the future.

I haven't scrolled all the way back to see if this was raised, but perhaps there are copyright issues due to which she can't produce anything too close to her original designs. I am almost certain that rights to her creative work while working for Mulberry would be retained by Mulberry and not by her as an individual. So perhaps she made these as close as she could to Mulberry-esque looks, but in a sense it would have been better to make them really different so that we don't draw comparisons to her prior work.

This. No microfibre. [emoji6]
Actually, I must confess that I like them quite a bit. Esp. the Willow-Lexy mixture in oxblood. But I'm very biased: bags with 2 buckle straps speak very much to me. [emoji1]
I'm not sure about the lock, though. I wonder if the smiling face might get disturbing after a while...
Also, I really wonder if anyone is buying those bags at this price point. Emma Hill isn't this famous and established, is she? Hopefully they don't have to give up soon and try something a bit more daring. I would be looking forward to it. [emoji4]

Such good points you've made--feel the same. (Buckles! :D)
Good materials--also not sure she's earned street cred for price points.

Look too much like mulberry designs to surprise/delight.
Which, after all this waiting, pisses me off.

That lock disturbs me NOW, forget about after awhile--want to punch its smug winkiness through my screen picture.
Irl, I'd be slapping these emoticon bags all day & grumbling.

Maybe my surprise & delight will arrive later, with future stuff? Hope, hope. :)

I'm afraid the lock has got on my wick already. I grew that these bags are priced way too high in my opinion and she's not well known enough to pull off that level of pricing.

Will be interesting to see if she gets any features in the ladies quality monthly glossys to back up the launch, otherwise I'm struggling to see where she will fit in.

Only thing I still love is the teddy bag charm but at £175 that's no happening for me.

Hehehe. You really hate that lock, do you?

I don't think there is much love for them on here, there is nothing 'new' about these bags and I'm not a fan of the lock. I haven't seen any reveals anywhere. This one is a nice colour but I'm not loving the bag.

Is anyone tempted by the Hill & Friends bags? I'm not really feeling the bags in the darker colors, but love the green and pinks. I feel like the green Happy Satchel would make an awesome summer bag, and the price doesn't seem that bag. I guess my only worry is if her line tanks then my bag would not be worth anything if I ever decided to resell.

I generally do try to find something positive to say about any bag that springs up. My only "like" is its silver hardware. Thats not the greatest start.

I am totally gutted by Ms Hill's designs. I was expecting a lot more. I'm not writing her off just yet but I'm expecting a lot more of a "design" to make me part with a bag that'll cost a grand.

:smile1:
