It is definitely a bit darker and more golden than the pic with my chocolate one. My pictures don't capture the golden undertone, and I'm not sure why. Beaux's photo in her GD thread pick up the color best. I am holding my bag up to it now and it looks extremely close, if not exact! Go here:

Beaux - what camera do you use?

The semi-distressed leather look is yummy! I hope you can bring the chain bag out to play soon. I'm almost sorry I didn't go for that one -my sis would have been fine with it - but I was eager to see the camel IRL. I might opt for an exchange and might not - I'm definitely mulling it over though!! I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts on the camel versus chain when it arrives. :D

Well, I got the camel just a few minutes ago. It is a nice bag...but there is something about it that I just can't put my finger one that I don't care for. I am not sure if it's too light in color, too uniform in color, or too smooth in texture for the lighter color. I would be afraid I would get a spot on it.

Maybe a combo of all three??

I'm gonna pack her back up today and ship her back to BG. :noworry:

^^I use a Sony digi camera (I think it's a few years old though) - it does the job though!

I had the same thoughts all weekend! It isn't too light for me anymore but the uniformity and lack of texture (there is a grain; it's just not pebbled) have me vacillating. As for spots, I took mine to the nail salon this weekend and put it on the empty pedicure chair next to me. All of a sudden the salon owner snatches it off the chair and places it on the dirty floor! :amazed:  I remember telling her to be careful while she was ramming it up against the dusty heating vent. And I'm in the middle of my pedicure so couldn't rescue it (and didn't want it on the chair with me to perhaps get wet). Then when my pedicurist was done, she backed up her chair smack into my bag. :amazed:  I was thinking that was it, the bag was history, but any dust and dirt wiped right off (thank goodness!).

I would worry more about your chain bag getting spots than this one. But if you don't think you'll use it then it should definitely go back to BG.

Well, my "tan" GD just arrived from Balisimo. Bjara, i have similar thoughts (if indeed we are talking about the same color). The color is just too blah, with an uninteresting texture. I'm really disappointed.

Well, I think if something rubs against my chain one, it won't show nearly as much, due to the distressing of the leather. When I got it, I sprayed about 3 coats of collonil weather stop on it, it's got a good armour coat on now. :p

Camel babe is on her way back to NY as we speak. :oh:

Aww! :sad2:

If it comes to that, will Toni let you exchange it for something else, or a store credit?

I'm sorry.

Sorry to stray OT, but were you on the waitlist for this? Could you post a pic of yours?

Bjara - I completely agree with your description and I can't really put my finger on why I didn't like mine when it arrived either. I think it's a combination of all three issues.

The leather on the Camel is just so different from that on the chain bag (not distressed - much stiffer - more uniform color) that it was just blah by comparison.

BG's getting mine back too.:sad2:

Roey - I'm STILL cringing thinking about your bag getting manhandled all around the salon. THIS is why I always fight the urge to carry only my wallet instead of my bag to get my hair cut.

Honestly folks, if my sister didn't buy the camel bag for me I would return it, but she is okay with me selling it on ebay and putting the $ toward another bag  (err, meant to type bills, not bag!).

Again, I want to let others know that if I didn't have the frame of reference of my last season chocolate GD, the camel would have completely met my expectations. It's like the Paddingtons of last year and this year. Those of us with 05 Paddingtons are disappointed in the new leather on some of the spring 06 bags, but first time Paddington owners are thrilled with their purchases.

The GD bags are very nice for the price point, and not at all tacky to look at!

I think Roey made the perfect analogy with the Paddingtons - I've wondered how anyone can actually like the newer ones until I remember that they have nothing to compare them to.

The Camel GD is exactly like that - it's actually a very nice bag and if that had been my first one, I probably would have liked it more, but comparing it to the leather on the chain bag (or the older batch of leather on the regular bags), it's just different.

So is Collonil Weather Stop the best thing to treat my GD bag with? I love that the leather is matte, and don't want to ruin it by using a product that will make it shiny. But I do want to protect it.
