Enough.

I’m tired of people expressing shock and delight at the new merchandise that Coach is putting out now. And I’m both amused and amazed at THEIR surprise when die-hard Coach fanatics like myself express disgust at their condescending viewpoints. Coming to a forum and essentially writing, “Wow! I can’t believe that I now love what used to be such CRAP” is not exactly a compliment. Do I even have to spell that one out? I guess I do.

I love and admire all bags – lots of them – bags from independent mom-and-pop stores up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire to “premiere” designers like Dior. But I’m a Coach girl at heart. My mom introduced me to the company at an early age, as many of our mothers have, and I have a sentimental attachment to the brand. I’ll always carry Coach. Their quality, styles, and colors are fantastic. Their prices, while climbing, are still relatively reasonable, considering what else is out there. I have fun, fantastic relationships with all of my SAs and I’ve been lucky enough to have great customer service whenever there’s been a problem with quality (which is NOT often).

The signature (“siggy”) look is still popular for many of us, but considered out of date for other Coach lovers. That’s up to each woman to decide for herself. Premiere designers, too, by the way, are highly sought after for their blatant use of logos. And p.s., premiere designers are also starting to make bags in China, too. I’m not justifying the horrifyingly minimal pay that these employees receive for their work by any means – I’m just pointing out a sad fact that is not exclusive to Coach. It’s something that needs to be addressed by every designer, and soon.

Calling this company “a starter brand” for those “hopeful fashionistas” wishing to carry something elegant and of good craftsmanship is insulting. Saying that you’re amazed to be toting around a product that costs underneath a certain overinflated price is offensive and pretentious. There are many women who come to this forum dreaming of owning a Coach bag from a boutique one day. The lack of awareness for those less economically fortunate than yourself is simultaneously elitist and – frankly - *****y. The incredulity expressed at such modern Coach styles is laughable. I mean, we Yanks and yokels sure do appreciate your citified sense of fashion and style, but we’ve been getting along just fine these past several years, thanks.

Coach has been around since 1941. Since that year, thousands of women around the world have been carrying Coach bags for a reason. If you’re just joining us and expressing astonishment, I’d like to ask: where have YOU been?

I can't thank you enough for this. And to add to your comments, I commented in the spring preview thread that the Swagger is not a departure from Coach's previous merchandise. It is a nice bag, but looks like many others already produced...so to use that one as the "oh wow, look at what Coach is doing now in my fashionista circle!" makes no sense and shows complete lack of awareness of Coach products in general.

I have loved Coach bags for a long time ... ever since (I think!) the 70's when my Vogue had those great ads with a famous person talking about their Coach bag ... does anyone remember those? I started reading Vogue in the 60's when I was a little kid (in Iowa! :D) so I could be mixing a couple of campaigns together ... but I remember the photography was beautiful, and the leather looked gorgeous, everything so classic and iconic.

I never bought one until at least 20 years later, and then Coach became my once or twice a year "treat" bag. I loved the boutiques, that they were beautiful but you didn't feel "scared" to go in and browse (I didn't, and still don't, do well with stores where they look at you like "what are you doing in here?" :p).

Now I enjoy buying several (sometimes a lot!) of bags a year. I love looking at the new collections coming out, deciding which are my favorites and which to spend my hard-earned money on. I've never been a great sale shopper, so I usually always buy FP, and I love the bags I choose. They wear well, look very classy, are fun to accessorize with the fobs Coach makes, and when I get tired of them, they hold their value well enough to help me recycle some of my money.

I work in a creative field, and am a creative dresser and a creative soul at heart, and I'm loving the new Vevers lines ... but I loved the previous (Madison, Legacy, etc. lines) also. I love Coach! I also love the variety, and that I can own several beautifully made, leather bags in varying styles for around $300 - $600 depending on the style. It's my "go-to" brand, and I don't see that changing any time soon. I hope they recover from this difficult few years and are successful far into the future!

LOL, gee must have missed that, it's funny.. purses are very individual, frankly some of the ones i have seen here maybe very expensive but i wouldn't buy it if you paid me too.

We all have different tastes and within that it covers a vast array of brands, i really think it's unnecessary to have it where we categorize one another, or turn it into cliques.

This forum is about the love of purses themselves.. whether that be Coach or LV..

Very good post, I loved it word for word. I carried Coach for several years and still do. There is a reason they have been around for so many years and their customer service is great too. I also love their outlets. I buy some older styles of Coach on ebay b/c I miss them, for example I just bought the Kristin Laila and planning on getting the Kristin tote. There are so many styles I miss but I'm excited to see the new collections coming out in the upcoming months from Stuart Vevers. I think someone saying Coach is a "starter brand" is snobby and pretentious. The brand I have had the least amount of quality issues with is Coach. I had quality issues several times with LV though. Every brand has quality issues at some point, but Coach handles them better than any brand I've come across. I'm sure people will disagree with some points I'm making here, but that's fine. I can't see walking into LV and dropping $1,400 on a handbag with initials all over it and then wait for the little bit of leather on the bag to turn a dirty dark brown. If you took any of Coach's bags and had the name Chloe, Louis Vuitton, or Channel put on it the price would go up dramatically, ONLY because of the name.
I'm a Coach girl at heart too and always enjoy going in their boutiques. The SA's are polite and even though the prices are going up some they are still reasonable. I also sometimes enjoy MK for the same reasons, although my soft spot resides with Coach and always will.

This reminds of the time I went to all the purse boutiques in Las Vegas to try to decide which purse I would want if price didn't matter. There were several brands that had at least one style I liked, but I loved the Coach embossed Sophia in wisteria as much if not more than any other purse I saw that day. My picture doesn't do justice to the beauty of this purse. It is signature technically, but done very creatively, in my opinion.

I was somewhat miffed by the types of comments you described as well, because they imply that Coach up until now had never produced a single fashionable bag. The Coach bags I have owned beg to differ. I think, however, these statements are also evidence of how much Coach's image has been diluted by countless cheap outlet bags.

enough.

Preach it sister!!! A well-deserved and well-articulated post!!! I too have many other bags, but am a Coach girl at heart! And some of the elitist posts I have seen about Coach really give me pause. There is no need for those kind of insensitive comments when we are all just sharing something we love!

You are spot on about bags being made in China. Even the designers that stamp made in Italy or Made in France typically only have them assembled in that country.

Coach has always made beautiful bags!!! Have they had some duds??? Yup. As have all of the other designers.

As for people knocking Coach, it speaks volumes about their own confidence and what they carry. I believe that the woman rocks the bag she loves and the bag does not necessarily rock the woman.

Thank you for taking the time to write this and posting a much needed reminder about the respect and responsibility that is a hallmark (most of the time anyway) of the Coach sub forum!!!

You, Coach Cruiser, are the bomb!!!
