Speaking of flat settings...

I once saw a pair of 2 ct. heart & arrow diamond studs so thin and flat they almost looked like flatback rhinestones glued to the woman's ears. Try as I might, I cant find anything like them anywhere.

Have any of you ladies seen diamond studs like these before? Or know what this setting is called?

Does anyone know what the setting for a diamond that lays almost completely flat on your ear is called? I know someone-not well enough to ask-who has 4 carat diamonds in her ears and they are not in your typical setting. They look really beautiful and I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks for your help.
I have been trying to find the same thing for so many years now, I hope there is an answer to this in the following responses. I want 2 carats for each ear set in a square radiant, that would be perfection to me for every day wear.

I've seen flat settings like you're talking about, but it incorporated 4 cut stones to make it look like one round stone (you couldn't tell that they were 4 individual stones.)
yes that is exactly the look that I am going for, but I have seen several pairs like that and i can still tell there are more than one stone on them.

I get mine Martini set and they sit very nicely that way.
I've tried the martini setting which I thought would fit the bill but they seem to get really dirty quickly since the stone touches the ear lobe.

I use these for my larger diamond studs.

This is exactly what I'm using since my studs always hang too much because of the way my ears were pierced. I have studs that have screw backings, they also hang so I use these disks on them also.

Do you mean "collet" set?

ladies, while we are on the subject of diamonds, let me share this photo so we can all swoon :) i love the "invisible" setting on this 4 carat each stunners :)

Now those are gorgeous, i wonder if the stones are flat on the bottom or if they could be made and set that way.

ok...the studs I bought are the Tiffany 4 prong setting. Is that ok?
I do love Tiffany diamonds and that is their classic earrings.
The Tiffany 4 prong basket setting base does sit flat against the ear and is generally not set too high. I bought my earrings from another place, but I had them source baskets settings in platinum that were low like Tiffany's. I do not use martini settings because some kinds can stretch the ear hole.

this is an old thread. but to answer the question, flat is bezel set (like the stone is within a frame)
martini set is a shallow 3 prong setting (hence, the name martini)
4 prong and 6 prong is self-explanatory. :)
