Flat setting for diamond studs

3 prong or 4 prong setting for a diamond is okay. It is much better than the one with bezel because you might want to change the design in the future. There is a risk in chipping or breaking the diamond if you are taking out a diamond from a bezel setting. If the setting really looks flat, the there is a possibility that the cutting of the diamond itself is flatter than the standard.

Does anyone know what the setting for a diamond that lays almost completely flat on your ear is called? I know someone-not well enough to ask-who has 4 carat diamonds in her ears and they are not in your typical setting. They look really beautiful and I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks for your help.:yes:

I'm totally blanking out on what the mounting is called, but there is one that makes the diamond look like there are no prongs or mounting at all. It makes it look like you have just a diamond stuck on your ear. The mounting style has an Asian sounding name. It was really popular around 5 years ago and used mostly for earrings and solitaire pendants.

If I can knock the cobwebs out of my brain, I'll post the name when I find it or remember it. Grrr! "Senior moments" suck! :rant:

YEAH! The brain still works. Good thing too because I couldn't find it by searching for the names of earring mountings. It's called Onishi Setting. Here's two pictures of some cubic earrings in the setting:

It was hugely popular for a while, but appears to have fallen out of favor for the martini style setting. My guess is it's because the stone just isn't that secure, but I won't swear to that.

Anyhoo, does this look like it?:shrugs:

I have some 2ct princess diamond studs and I was wondering if the martini setting is also possible for those diamonds... The diamonds are nice but I don't like those 'boxes' on my ear.:whistle: Anyone?

I don't know if there's any other way to set Princess'{?}
I'm getting rounds or cushions because I'm so anal retentive, I'd be leveling those Princess cuts all day everyday! LOL!

I have some 1.25 tw studs in a martini settings but I don't like them. They droop on my ears. I wish I could find someone to copy the peretti Tiffany bezel studs for me, because that's what I really would like my diamonds mounted in.

Do you mean "collet" set?

ladies, while we are on the subject of diamonds, let me share this photo so we can all swoon :) i love the "invisible" setting on this 4 carat each stunners :)

I can see prongs. . . how is it invisible?

Those earrings are BRORGEOUS nonetheless!:yes:

^^Weird about your martini set. Mine make my studs sit perfectly and my current ones are almost identical in size.
