Fix for Galliera Black Ring Marks Problem

Thanks for sharing this! Just need to buy the invisible shield! Hope they sell it here. Once you apply this does it wear off or something? Do you have to change the skin every now and then?

If you don't have an Invisible Shield booth at your local mall, then just order from the Best Skins Ever link I gave earlier. It's cheaper and it does the same thing.

The only problem I see happening is maybe the edges of the skin peeling up after a while. Hasn't happened yet for me but it's possible. Otherwise the skin will last as long as the bag.

Anybody tried putting a coat of clear nailpolish on the rings? It's easy to apply and invisible.... just a thought.

I thought of doing this before but I'm a little hesitant to try it out as it might accidentally transfer on to the vachetta and also maybe ruin the brass? The idea of using the invisible shield sound more plausible to me. :smile1:

I have a "test" spot to see if it does anything to the brass. Been about a week and it is fine. However, you would have to put it on pretty evenly I think. My test spot is not on the purse so not sure how accurate it would be, but I thought brass is all the same, right? I find once it is dry it doesn't harm anything touching it. I am not bothering with the invisible shield, as I am sure the corners will peel sooner or later.

This is definitely an interesting idea. My only concern is that the whole problem I think is because the brass ring is constantly rubbing against the brass eyelet, and that's what's causing the black dust. So this constant friction might cause the nailpolish to wear off and transfer onto the vachetta, as DisCo pointed out. But this is another option to think about and if it works that would be awesome. Sounds like you're pretty close to going ahead with this so please let me know how it works out for you!

OK, I took some close-ups of the rings. In one photo I outlined the area where I applied the Invisible Shield--it's the inner part of the ring that comes in contact with the eyelet. You can also see there are absolutely no marks whatsoever. My girlfriend used to have to clean this area daily, but she hasn't had to do anything in the past 2+ weeks. That area is spotless.

Great Idea:yahoo:
Not just for the Galliera either.
Thank you for sharing!

I just put the invisible shield on my rings. Now I will have to wait a couple of days to see if the marks return. The marks come back after just one use without the invisible shield. I will try reporting back on Monday.

I also did not use the soap and water solution that was suggested. It still seems to stick without it.

Yes, please report back! 1 month later for my GF and not a single mark.

The only reason I would suggest using the solution (very little) is because it helps with positioning the shield. When it's wet it slides around and you can line it up exactly. It dries in about a minute and goes back to being sticky.

OK, I finally got around to doing this again because I wasn't happy with the alignment the first time. I also cut the I.S. differently this time to conform better to the ring.

Here are the materials you'll need to do this:

1. Invisible Shield or some similar product
2. Solution to wet the I.S.
3. Razor or sharp scissors to cut I.S.
4. Ruler
5. Cardboard tracing template

First, create the cardboard tracing template. The one I used looks like this:

The measurements for this are 2.5" L
Size-length.jpg

and .5" W
Size-width.jpg

Note: You can shorten the length because there will be overlap when you apply both strips. It's up to you how much overlap you want.

Using the template, cut 4 strips from the I.S. You will need 2 for each ring.

Peel off the I.S. from one of the strips, and using either the spray bottle or your own solution, lightly moisten the sticky side of the shield. You don't want water dripping from it and falling on the bag during application, so shake off any excess water.

Starting from the top of the ring, line up the I.S. so the "V" cutout lines up where the ring meets the strap. Remember, you are applying this on the underside of the ring. Be careful and patient. It helps to have someone else hold everything out of the way while you apply the shield.

Keep pressing down on the I.S. as it dries. If any edge lifts up, apply pressure for a few seconds on that spot. Smooth out any wrinkles. As it settles it should look like this:

Once it feels firmly in place, you can repeat for the other half of the ring. No need to wait very long.

After everything is done, make sure there are no peeling edges anywhere. And pat yourself on the back...no more black marks! :yahoo:
