Congrats on your new watch. Looks beautiful. Just an FYI (not sure if you know this), you can switch out Rolex dials through a Rolex service center (you can find your nearest service center by asking the store you purchased it in, or asking them about switching dials directly).

If I remember correctly, it will cost about $800 for the hour regular markers (like the roman numerals you suggested above), $3000 for a diamond dial, and $6000 for both MOP and diamonds.

This is not accurate. You can switch dials, but only for those dials that would match the reference number. If MOP or diamonds wasn't an original option on the reference no. you bought, you can't upgrade to it.
Here's a thread on Rolexforums about this, inc. a confirmation from the moderator--these are knowledgeable people.

Agree, dials can only be changed if there’s an exact model configuration. For example, you can’t change a dial from the Datejust model into the Oyster Perpetual, vice versa.

I’ve checked with my AD on that matter and the dial cannot be downgraded, for example a diamond marker dial to a Roman numeral. Only upgrade is allowed, Index or Roman to diamond dial.

After much consideration, I’ve decided to go with the 31mm silver dial with diamond markers. I love the mop but it was going to cost $2500 more so this was a happy medium. Thank you ladies for all of your inputs.
Orchidlady do I see red patent YSL Tributes ? If yes, I never knew they were produced in red patent, they are FAB! Are they new stock? Any details would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.

"If you go ahead and ask them that you want to switch your dial, they have a booklet to show you which dials your watch can have. In your case, it would be any 31mm dial with rose gold accents."

You are right that I should have been more specific. When I said: it would be "any" 31mm dial with rose gold accents, I meant any current DateJust 31mm dial with rose gold accents.

How do I know this? Because she bought it recently. Since she bought it recently, she can go onto the Rolex website, and filter for any current 31mm Datejust watches, in steel and gold, small size (specifically looking for 31mm and steel/rose gold ones).

Whatever dial comes up in ROSE GOLD and in 31mm she is able to switch to.

In her case, MOP IS available as an option, as there is MOP 31mm with rose gold accents currently listed online and will match her watch.

I've attached the picture of the MOP below.

I know all of this because I also bought a Datejust this year and went through the service center to ask about switching dials. The reference book they showed me shows pictures of dials I am able to choose.

All the dials they showed me in the booklet (pictures attached below) match exactly the same ones on the website if I went ahead and filtered for 36mm Steel Datejust with white gold accents, which is the watch type I own.

If you have an old Rolex the reference numbers might be different depending on how old it is and when you go to an authorized dealer, they will show you specifically what options are available for that specific watch.

Anyhow, you have to go to a store to specifically ask, and they can clarify further what is and isn't an option to your specific watch.

The bottom line is this was information she wasn't aware of before, and now she knows in case she wants to switch it up in the future, since the point of her original post was having trouble choosing a dial, I wanted to make sure she was aware that switching dials is an option.

She didn't know this and know she does, so yay! Mission accomplished of my original post.

In nvie's case, the AD told her that she isn't able to downgrade from diamond markers to less valuable markers.

That wasn't the case for my mother, who has a 36mm diamond dial rose gold Datejust, and wanted to switch to a Roman numeral one, which she was able to and did successfully.

This was in the Middle East, most likely a different region from where nvie checked with an AD, so that may have been a factor. It also may very well depend on your personal relationship with Rolex (whether you are considered a VIP client or not, in my mothers case, she was considered a VIP client).

SO if you go to speak to an AD you may or may not be able to switch depending on your relationship and region with the AD, but it doesn't hurt to ask and see for yourself.

I may not be a expert, but I do consider myself a "knowledgeable person," to quote you.

Thanks for reading. Hope I cleared things up and my post helps :)

[The dial choice rules haven't changed from Rolexes of twenty or five years ago to today.]

Good advice about checking with her authorized dealer. Only the dials within the same reference number are possible to change to, later on.

Whether a dial can be downgraded seems to be a different matter.

This may be the case in the US... haven't personally checked here yet.

In London and in Dubai, I am able to switch from my reference number of a plain white dial with Roman numerals to any dial I choose which are "different reference numbers" within the same product line on that booklet page.

I can choose any single dial I want on that page, and I was given the prices to do so, which I stated above. This was in the Middle East so it may be more expensive that if it was done here (if they even let you do it here, because based on what you are saying it doesn't seem like they would allow that

I am personally switching a plain white dial with roman numerals listed between one reference number in the booklet, to a MOP with diamonds on the next page listed as another reference number in the booklet.

This might be a regional issue.

So we just received the Rolexes in the mail. We had to wait for them to be shipped out of state for no tax. We got 3 watches total, 2 for me and 1 for my soon-to-be hubby but I will return one since it’s too much money to be spending on watches at the same time. Should I keep the TT Everose with diamond markers silver dial or the TT Yellow Gold with champagne dial Roman numerals?
