What leather size color you looking at
Honestly 5k for b is kind of tough even for a 50%or worst conditions
Not impossible but getting a gd neutral or average color you will need lots of luck
Be diligent do your research
Be patience don't rush

The other good news besides 35s being well-priced currently is that the euro is a bit healthier these days. You can find a good B35 for around $8K USD which is less than $7K euro. So you are well on your way!
I sold a B a couple years ago for $5800 and it was in great shape except the handles. Just happened to be a 35 and slouchy and that wasn't super popular at the time. So you could get lucky.

I’m glad you are being careful with authentication. It’s frustrating that the online site is not responding to your questions, so I’d think about that fact carefully. Keep saving and being patient and you will get there! The first one is very special. :-)

For starters, your Euro is worth more than you think at nearly 6,400. If you are open to the idea, your could find a HAC or around that amount. I bought a black chevre HAC 32 for close to this amount from Ann's Fabulous Finds and it is in perfect condition. I also bought a B35 from Ann's during a sale and got it for $8,000 with coupon codes. Again, in perfect condition. I love this bag and my HAC. See if you find something on that site and put it on layaway for 2 months while you save the remainder. They are very easy to work with and want to help you find your dream bag and their stock is all authenticated.

Also if you buy from within the EU then you won’t have to pay customs duties / taxes which will add to the pot.
Xupes.com in the UK are good although a little more expensive. Collector Square in Paris have a few and designer exchange have a few more reasonably priced ones. I went to visit them recently and they pulled out a Bababebi certificate from the bag I was looking at and told me they get all their Birkins authenticated through her which if true is great!
I’ll post a link but get them to send extra photos of anything you are interested in. I had a look in person at the etoupe B35 they have here and I’m pretty sure it will need new handles in the not too distant future so won’t be such a great price taking that into account.

Thank you so much, Tonimichelle. I actually want to thank all of you for the feedback. Purseforum seem to be a great place and I spent more or less all weekend reading through all the Hermes threads, searching for ebay sellers that I can possibly trust/not trust, etc.

I sold a 35 Birkin last week on VC for just over 6000 Euros. It was in great condition although 12 years old.

I'm also in Europe and I agree with others that if you buy within Europe you have no customs fees, so it's much better. Also I find that in the US they're more expensive usually, in Japan they can be cheaper but I wouldn't spend 1000 Euros on customs. Keep looking, you'll get lucky sooner or later!

Only if you want an HAC instead of a Birkin. Black box is a forever classic, but HACs will always be better priced.

you can also ask to have it authenticated here, if you're really interested in getting it, and maybe you'll get an authentication for free (I say maybe because it's not a guarantee that it will be authenticated, seeing that you're a newbie)

I agree with everyone else: save more money over the next few months and educate yourself about custom duties. You have a nice chunk of money now, but a few more thousands will help you get a Birkin in better condition.
