CO Bigelow (also sold at Bath and Body Works) makes a sheer red shade in the mentha lip gloss. It comes in a green tube and the tint is no. 1138. I've been vamped up by MAC techs and couldn't pull off the bold lip look. But this gloss is really wearable in a flattering cherry red shade. If you need training wheels for red I highly recommend it.

Another vote for Lipstick Queen Medieval. It is VERY sheer, so that's something to be aware of -- no matter how much you pile on, it's not going to look like a full-color opaque red lipstick. I can also imagine that it would pull fuschia on some people. It's lovely, though, and for people who want a very understated, very sheer red, definitely one to try.

Wanted to bump this up because I just found another sheer red lipcolor - Hard Candy's Visibly Wed lipgloss stick in Must Have. It pencils on like a lip crayon but it is moist (not sticky) like a good lip gloss. It gave me the perfect amount of sheer red color - I love it! I had purchased NYC's Sheer Red and Clinique's Black Honey lipstick and gloss based on this thread, but both didn't give me what I was looking for. This was the best I had found....and it was only $6 at Walmart!!

Buxom Lip Balm in "Bora Bora" is a sheer red as well, I love it. It's a conditioning lip treatment and it's an extremely sheer cherry-red. I bought two, ("Copacabana" as well,) because I love them so much. :)
