image.png image.png Seriously DO NOT sell any high ticket items on mercari. You may get ripped off. I recently sold a bottle of Chanel coco mademoiselle pure Parfum for $145 on the app. I accurately listed this item with many shots of the sealed box (pics of the bottom with batch code). When she received it, she contacted me and claimed it was too small and not worth the price paid. I advised her that the sizing was listed and pictured and the item was accurately described. I also asked if she was familiar with the product because it retails for $190. We went in circles for many messages, all time and date stamped. Basically she said if she makes any big purchase she should be able to return it if it was "not as expected". I asked her again, what did you expect because you got exactly what was described and pictured. She stated that she expected bigger and the bottle was travel sized and who pays that much for something so small. She previously bought a bottle at Macy's for $100 and it was much bigger. I again had to school her on perfumes and the difference between the pure Parfum vs eau de parfum vs eau de toilette. And I advised her that mercari doesn't accept returns unless the item was not as described and I accurately describe this item. That was my big mistake. She suddenly changed her story and told me that I need to accurately describe my items and they are non authentic. Mercari accepted her return! And I know for a fact, I will not be receiving my $190 parfum I sent, she will most likely send an empty box or bottle filled with water. So a warning, never sell any expensive items on mercari! It was ok for me in the beginning, I sold some stuff, made some money. Now I'm out my $145 and I guarantee I am not getting back my parfum. Be careful ladies.

I've wondered that too. It happens a lot on Poshmark also, there will be a message on a listing that says "email me at ----- with your best price."
Or "email me at ---- if this is still a available." With no other questions or info. At the very least they could be selling your email for marketing. But you're right, if you emailed them back they might fish for more info to do some real damage.

As a seller on Poshmark, I actually do this. Why? Because Poshmark takes a 20% fee off the price of the purse, and it's ridiculous!
Poshmark and sites like Mercari delete these listings because they don't want sellers to side-step their profits, but I think a 20% fee is just too harsh.

Honestly, if you pay someone via Paypal, there is very little risk of being scammed, because you can just file a chargeback if anything goes wrong. As long as you're not sending money via Friends/Family.

I guess my question would be that if you, as a seller, feel that the fees are too high then why list your item there in the first place? It's not fair to the selling platform that you obviously would take your business off their site when that's how the potential seller found your item in the first place. If you feel the fees are too high then shop around for a more compatible site rather than trying to scr*w the original one.

I do agree with this, and I have since stopped doing this/selling on Poshmark. However, I will say that not every seller who does this has intentions of scamming or scr*wing the buyer, just Poshmark. Especially if they're asking you to pay via Paypal, there's a low chance of being scammed.

But you're missing my point! No seller should go onto PM with the intention of scr*ing them (PM that is). They're the hosting site and by listing your item on their site supposedly you've agreed to their terms......by taking your transaction off of the site it's quite obvious what you're doing and why you're doing it. Not only to PM but to everyone else. It makes you look quite unethical. I'm not worried here about the buyers, they're usually protected. My point is that sellers shouldn't be using PM as a 'shill' site to sell their stuff.
It stinks.

I guess I was replying more to the fact that people were worried that their emails were getting sold, or that they were getting phished or, like other people saying "I know it's a scam of some kind but is it identity theft or something?" (see previous replies by other people). Maybe what they're doing is not ethical, but it's probably not a scam or identify theft...

Do they have a customer service number yet? I purchased an item, but the wrong item was sent. A return was approved and I sent it via USPS yesterday using their return label. Once it is delivered I will get my refund. The problem is that the app has not noted yet that it was sent/scanned as sent back. I have the return tracking number so that I could manually update it but there's no place to do that. I can't go into my purchase history because my "communication" with customer service has been "closed" because they figured the issue is resolved and I don't see a place to re-open that message chain.
