First .. don't lie to the DH .. and don't buy til you can afford. Don't go in debt for bags.
Second .. as you move up in price, maybe you will change bags less? And have fewer bags?
Then .. sell bags not being used. Some greatly admired gals do the one-in-one-out, to keep the closet in order. We are in awe of these people!
Good luck. Oh .. and welcome to the dark side!

First of all your are not crazy... LV last just about forever. I used to be into Coach and not spend more then a few hundred at a time. I would look at my pile of Coach and think... OMG I could have had LV's instead. Instead of 10 Coach bags I could have has 3 or 4 LV for the same amount. So I got my first LV. It was $710. The cost of 2 Coach. My only regret was ever buying anything else besides LV all along.

To fund your new LV I would sell some of your other bags you don't use.

GO FOR IT!!!! It will be worth it... Just a warning LV can become VERY VERY VERY addictive.

Only my fellow purse lovers will understand my dilemma and may be able to assist. First let me start by saying, "I love purses!!". I am currently on a three month cycle. I have been pretty consistent with Michael Kors, Coach and Cole Haan staying right around the $300 - $400 range.

I don't buy a bag every three months sometime once a year and I have gone for longer period of time without buying. This year has been different I purchased one bag and a clutch. I find that I always think I "need" (very irrational thinking on my part) a new handbag when I'm not comfortable with those I carry often--I only buy what I really love and I think about it for a long time--much back and forth to the boutique until I am certain. Although I have made mistakes when choosing something trendy instead of evaluating my real needs. And by needs I mean do I want a shoulder strap and a hand handle... for a thousand dollars or more I do my very best so that I will not regret my purchase and that it will suit my lifestyle.

My husband thinks I'm crazy, and doesn't understand how I can spend our hard earned money on a new purse every three months.

The above does not surprise me; my husband also think that I spend too much on bags, clothings and footwear.

Well, I've been looking around for a nice tote, and I spotted the Louis Vuitton Totally Monogram MM and fell in love! I went to the LV store today hoping it wouldn't live up to my expectations in real life, and I could just forget about it, but it was even better than I thought it would be - all $970 worth!

If you can not afford it now; you surely can save up for it.

How am I going to negotiate such an increase in my spending pattern especially when I change so often? Should I not tell my husband how much it is?

Hmm, I would suggest you tell him but if it will cause too much problems and you have chosen to get the LV already than you could wait.

And what about the people I work with? I worry about going to work with such an expensive bag. What will they think? I was thinking I might say it's a replica. What are your experiences with issues like this? Any advice? Finally, are the LV monogram handbags made to last? Because issues aside, I have to have that bag.

I do not care about what acquaintances think and if someone makes an offensive comment, I usually reply in a humorous manner.

I am going to talk to hubby tonight about it. I really am tempted to just buy it tomorrow though regardless of how he feels about it. We all have our vices. I can just spend the next nine months worth of purses tomorrow and try to hold off for a few extra months. The heart wants what the heart wants, and having that bag will fill my heart with joy. Thanks for your support!

Sounds like a plan. I used to be a purse collector also, most of them were no names and rather cheap. Then I got some money from my insurance once and decided to get myself a decent LV Monogram Style.

You might be afraid, that your addiction will continue at a higher level (and chances are pretty good, it will one day :p) but: I'm pretty sure, that after getting that one "expensive" purse, that really makes your heart sing, you'll be able to hold back for quite some time :smile1:

I kind of look at it this way, if you wear that bag for the next two years, it'll basically cost you about $10 bucks a week. You know you will get more wear out of it than two years, of course. This is a game that I play when I want something that is more than I'm actually willing to pay at the time. I think it's called "rationalization", but it doesn't count if you are a purse addict. I say get it.

I think of a purse addiction like enjoying a good wine if you've never been into wine before. Anyone who loves wine will most likely tell you that you start out with the sweeter wines, and then before you know it, you are very much into the drier ones and you just can't go back. With purses, you start out with your very modestly priced ones, and then you progress up the ladder to the pricier ones. It's just inevitable.

I would say if you have the money for it...then go for it! You said you work too..so its not like your just spending money your husband made. I would not worry at all about the people you work with, and i dont see the point in telling people its fake. You work hard for your money to buy nice things that make you happy...why lie about it?

Well, I talked to my husband last night, and to my amazement, he did not give me a hard time. I asked him if we could consider it a gift because I recently graduated from college, and he said okay. It makes the bag that much more special to me. I couldn't believe it!! I bought the bag today. I took a few pictures, but they didn't turn out. I have to wait until later to have someone take them for me. I will get some pics posted. Thank you for your support and ideas, and just being there to listen. It helped a lot.

Congradulations.....and welcome to LV. I was going to suggest buying the LV and skipping the next two bag purchases which would have ended up costing $900 anyway between 3 bag purchases. You will love your LV. I only have one LV (Azure Galleria-see avatar) that I bought for my wife earlier this year. Just be careful you dont get bit with the LV bug. I use to buy my wife Coach bags in the under $200 range...then went to $300. About two years ago I saw the Jimmy Choo Saba in a magazine and spent over 2K on a bag. Since then I have bought two more JC's them a LV (which $1200 seemed like a drop in the bucket after 3 choo's). I have come back down buying Rebecca Minkoff and Bulgas on sale for the $300 range which due to the economy this is becomming difficult. It's easy to get out of control but OH soooo fun!

:yahoo: Congrats!!!

One thing I did with my dh was remind him of the things he is interested in...electronics, video games, guitars, etc. All things that can add up pretty quickly! My dh rarely says anything about my LV obsession now! Plus, your next purchase could always be a new wallet for him! That's how I got my dh sucked into LV!

Yes, it is a slippery slope.
Started with Coach some years back, moved to Chanel, some LV...then to Hermes. Now have 2 birkins and a Kelly, 3 wallets, oh, it does not stop.

It's strange. I feel like I just experienced an momentous event in getting this purse. this purchase feels differently than any other. I told the counter salesman that it was my first. He congratulated me and packaged it in a really nice box. I couldn't wait to get home to try it out with my stuff in it. It's so much fun!! I really do love the bag, and I'm happy to share the experience too.
