Books & Music Ever think a song was about one thing, and then you REALLY listen to it

I think I must be slow or something. I listened to the lyrics of this one Bob Marley song that I like and was shocked - shocked and appalled, I say - to find that it was about marijuana. This happened last week!!! I'm not even kidding.:hrmm:

I remember someone I knew from college (and let's just say she needs certain things explained to her) being shocked when someone told her about what Aaliyah's Rock the Boat was about.

Okay, the song contains the following lyrics:

"Work it in the middle"
"Change positions"
"Stroke it for me"

Um . . . . yeah . . . . it should be obvious what that song is about.

*stage whispers* sex!

my excuse is that english is my second language but i always thought depeche mode's "master and servant" was about the struggle between classes...yeah, right!

Waaaay back in the 70's when Steve Miller came out with "The Joker" I'd sing it over and over and over and over driving my Mom and stepdad BONKERS....I think I was like in 4th grade....I remember helping to unload groceries one day and belting this out...

"Cause I'm a picker, I'm grinner,
I'm a lover and I'm a sinner
I play my music in the sun
I'm a joker, I'm a smoker
I'm a midnight toker
I get my loving on the run.

(ouuuuuu ouuuuuuuu)

You're the cutest thing that I ever did see
I really love your peaches, want to shake your tree
Lovey dovey, lovey dovey
Lovey dovey, all the time *whistles*
Oh me babe, I could show you good time"

I love this song and sing/play it all the time until my youngest started singing it:

FADED
By: Soul Decision

When I get you all alone
I'm gonna move in nice and close
Ain't nobody gonna interrupt my game, oh no no
Ever since you've been hangin' around
I've been trying to figure out
What I can say to you to get some play, yeah

Can we do what we did last night again
Baby you and I'd be better friends
Don't you think it's time we went a bit further, oh yeah
Every night when we say goodbye
how can I help looking in your eyes
Wondering why that you and I haven't hit it
Can we get it on

[Chorus:]
Kind of faded, but I'm feeling alright
Thinkin' about making my move tonight
I can't pretend that you're only my friend when you're holdin' my body tight
'Cause I like the way you're making your move
I like the way you're making me wait
At the end of the night, when I make up your mind
You'll be coming on home with me, yeah, yeah, yeah

Yeah you know you've got it
And you know I want it
I can't wait to take you home (you know you've got it tonight)
I don't want to be rude at all
I just want to be where you go
Think that we could do clothed (yeah)

Can we do what we did last night again
Baby you and I'd be better friends
Don't you think it's time we went a bit further, oh yeah
Every night when we say goodbye
How can I help lookin' in your eyes
Wondering why that you and I haven't hit it
Can we get it on

[chorus]

(Rap)
Uh, When we first met yo, that deal was stated
You stepped like my steeps the way we conversated
just another day
just around the way
put me up close with everything ok
kuz I
not like the rest
Indescision with the best
Floss with my four point press
Just because their hated
wait, how does it go HA, Faded

Oh! I finally remembered one... Paul Young "Everytime You Go Away"....

Correct lyrics: Everytime you go away, you take a piece of me with you...

I swear, I when my brothers & I were little, we thought the chorus went Everytime you go away....you take a piece of meat with you.... We thought that was hilarious because we thought she was stealing his dinner or something & that's why he was so sad... :roflmfao:

LOL: on that note...how about the elementary set singing along to the chorus of Akon & Snoop's radio edit "I wanna love you"

I see you windin n grindin up on that pole,
I know u see me lookin' at you and you already know
I wanna love you, you already know
I wanna love you, you already know

How many of us think they don't actually know what "windin n'grindin up on that pole" means?

Oh yah... and since that song was pretty bad to begin with, I shouldn't have been so surprised to find out that "I wanna love you" was actually "I wanna f:censor:k you"....

oh this thread is making my tummy hurt from laughing!!:roflmfao::roflmfao::roflmfao:
when i was younger i really liked the song "pony by ginuwine." i thought he like riding ponies like i did when i was that age. i remember always singing that song everywhere i go. anyway before winter break my friend nancy offered to burn all of us girls our fave songs as her xmas present coz she was broke. one of the songs on my list was "pony!" after our annual xmas dinner i popped the cd on SO's car on our way home! to my disbelief is was stinking DIRTY!!!

I'm just a bachelor
I'm looking for a partner
Someone who knows how to ride
Without even falling off
Gotta be compatible
Takes me to my limits
Girl when I break you off
I promise that you won't want to get off

If your horny lets do it
Ride it my pony
My saddle's waiting
Come and jump on it
If your horny lets do it
Ride it my pony
My saddles waiting
Come and jump on it

bf was laughing his butt off coz i was in complete disbelief! how could i have been singing this without realizing how dirty it was?!

I definitely butcher lyrics -- thought David Byrne's "Letting the Days go by" was "Letting it Taste so Fine", thought "wandering dove" was "one wing dove" (now that's sad !) and a song on the The National's new cd had a line "You're racing like a pro, now" which I heard as "Racing like a pronoun" -- I knew their lead singer was a poet but perhaps that was taking things a bit too far !!

I knew that Pony by Genuwine was dirty, but I didn't realize HOW dirty:

You and your body
Every single portion
Send chills up and down you spine
Juices flowing down your thigh

EW! No WONDER it was listed on VH-1's most awesomely bad dirty songs!

Too funny! I'm a big steve miller band fan!!

There was a country song I sang when really little...so in the 70's and It was 'You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille. Four hungry children and a crop and a field'.
(Man...that really is country..ha)

But, I used to think and sing it, '...Four hundred children..." and remember thinking 'whoa... that's a lot of kids'.

I had to stop listening to gwen's song in my car when my 5 and 3 year old were belting out, 'This **** is bananas, b-a-n-a-n-a-s, This **** is bananas..."
