even if i want to, i don't think i can do it. i am trying to sell off my YSL chyc long wallet which i only bought months ago, i am already selling it quite cheaply (almost half price) but still no takers. i have the full packaging including receipt from the store :(

It's hard, some brands just don't retain their original value. I used to be Gucci obsessed and have sold many of my pieces off for unbelievable prices because I had to keep relisting and lowering :( That's where LV, Chanel and Hermes really are better investments, because most of them retain their value... And sometimes you even make a profit (I have)!

I'll never have an Hermes (I'm not in that income bracket, and even if I was, I couldn't pay what their bags costs... No offense to anyone who does! It's a personal choice)... But I've been working on my LV collection and hope to add one Chanel bag sometime (I only have jewelry and a vintage wallet right now... sold a vintage bag because it was too small, a leather card case because I didn't think I'd use it, another vintage wallet because I didn't know they did repairs and a cosmetic bag for the same reason... and I regret all of it!). But even my older, damaged Chanel items sold for a mint!

I have never purged...but I should as I have no more room, I now have three bedroom closets full of my purses. They get expensive too but I would feel bad parting. I started out with coach then juicy then Marc by Marc Jacobs and the past 3 years into LV ( I have 22 and made a list now so I can keep up) then one Chanel GST, couple of Prada's and one miu miu bow, 3 Gucci's, one Balenciaga, one Jimmy Choo, one Fendi, two Burberry's, Marc Jaacobs two stams and as of the past month I spent 5k on a few purses, namely Chloe and a Celine Luggage. I have a bag obsession and bag hoarding problem, I can't let go. The one bag that I want is the Hermes Evelyne and Hermes Birkin. I keep thinking I will stop after a bag purchase but eye another one like the GIVENCHY pandora or the Chloe paraty. Anyone else like me? Is there bag rehab? How did you let go? I can't even let go of my coach purses that I had several years ago as I feel I would lose money from selling and I might just use it... I do change purses frequently though.

I'm purging now and it feels good. I had way too many Bals and now have cut that in half! I started by selling my large RM collection...over 40ish and cut those back to less than 10.
In addition to my Bals (which I still have a lot - I hoard those but I'm still purging) I'm down to only 2 LVs, 1 Mulberry, 3 Celines, 2 Proenza Schouler, 3 Chloes, 5 RMs.....

I should purge but know I will regret..I have a letting go problem. Sometimes I can't even find a bag...it's that bad

Yep, I know it might sound crazy to some, but I am seriously contemplating selling several of my mid-level designer bags in pursuit of the most expensive (obviously premium designer) handbag that I have ever owned. I currently own about 11 handbags, and would be selling 5 of them in excellent used condition in order to fund a single, very classic handbag in my favorite color.

Have any of your ever done something like this? If so, how did it work out for you?

(I also should perhaps also clarify that I have done substantial collection purges before and don't usually harbor any regrets. I prefer having a small to mid-sized, very well-loved handbag collection. I am the person that my family and friends call when they need help cleaning out their closets!!!)
Whoa, 5 bags to buy 1? What new purse are you contemplating on? I'm so curious...

If you do decide to sell your old gently used collection, please let us know! :)

I have recently finished purging my collection and I am now at 3/4 bags.

The bags I decided to keep are perfect for my lifestyle. I have a black handheld bag, 2 shoulder bags in navy and tan and a red bag I am waiting to see how much it gets used. I have a black clutch I use for quick errands and going out. The other bag I own I haven't counted in this as it's a cotton tote that I bought from Etsy to use as a take everything out bag. This bag gets used for days out to the beach or for travelling.

I have two purses that I alternate between for Spring/Summer I have a vibrant postcard design purse and Autumn/Winter is a berry red purse.

Having less is definitely more for me as I am not thinking about what I have left to use. I am no longer chasing the next bag as I am really happy with what I have. It took me years to get to where I am now and I love having a smaller collection. I never want this to get out of hand again.

Ive never purged my collection for one bag but i have done alot of trading and endless hours of hunting to get a collection i am proud of :) i am selling some of my bags as i would like a mulberry daria so i guess i am purging :) sort of

Just thought I would bump one of my favorite threads as I’m sort of considering going through this again and wondered if anyone else did this recently or was thinking about doing it so we could motivate each other/offer support.

I have been slowly editing my bags down over the past few months – I sent three out the door so far this summer, which was my goal. I’ve been planning to sell a few more this year to get to under 15 bags. However, I’ve recently been thinking about doing a more drastic purge – getting down to under 10 (something like 4 RMs, 2 Coach, 1 LV, 1 BV, maybe a Bal). Not quite a full collection purge, but still – potentially cutting more than half is a lot, I think.

The next couple will still be fairly easy for me to part with, because they don’t work for me for one reason or another. It’s after I get rid of these few that things get trickier. I have some that I do use and enjoy, just not very often. The 2 Bals I still have, for example – I think I’m scared to carry them since I’ve had some bad luck with wear on Bals in the past year. On the one hand, since I don’t use them much anymore, it might make sense to call it a day and be done with it. But if I regretted it, I would have a very difficult time replacing them (if I could at all) since they’re older bags. I think that’s my problem with a bunch of the bags that I’m on the fence about – if I knew they could be easily replaced, I think I’d have an easier time.

While I don’t need the money or the space necessarily, I figure 1) some extra cash would be nice to have for my honeymoon this fall and 2) clutter has been stressing me out lately. And while 15 bags is not a lot by many people’s standards, I do feel like I have some guilt because I can really only carry one at a time, and I also carry some much more than others, so it feels wasteful, if that makes sense. I do like variety, but I need to find a happy medium between variety and having a number where everything has a purpose and gets used.

And since part of the purpose of this thread is “in pursuit of one bag,” what would I get if I purged? My plan is nothing for at least a little while, since I’m trying to get out of the sell-buy-sell cycle. I’m planning to buy a second Le Pliage in the fall, since I use my navy one all of the time. Ultimately, I would like to get a DE speedy b sometime in the fall/winter to use as an everyday bag. And then, sometime after that, I’d save up for an ebano veneta. I think if I focus on the end goal, that might make things easier – I know these two bags will work for me and get a lot of use.

And then of course, the ultimate goal would be to stay at 10 bags or less and get out of the buy-sell cycle.

Whew, that was long!

Glad someone bumped this thread!

I have never been successful before, but I'm trying again. I'm slowly editing my bag collection and only going for the classics. When I first started collecting, I just bought whatever I liked at the time and didn't think about it's longevity. I am getting rid of bags with logos all over. So far I have consigned 3 bags and am contemplating a fourth.

^ I haven't decided on a number but I'm definitely trying to keep it to one shelving unit! 😊 And I'm going to put any proceeds from selling my bags towards Celine and Hermes - my two favorite brands.
