Please inbox me if possible....

Thanks

i am basically doing this now-getting rid of some high end bags that i just dont like anymore, and some mid-low level bags all for just 5 or 6 really great bags. i just dont have that need anymore to have tons of bags, i would rather have half a dozen gorgeous bags-as your life changes i think so does your bag "needs"-i also am a career declutterer!! i am constantly decluterring and organizing something in my house!! for me its mental- i just feel so much clearer:)

klj I am so sorry for your loss. :hugs:

thedseer and knas it seems we are all in the same boat with a couple left to go. I am not quite ready to put my last 2 bags on the bay yet, I just am trying to be patient.

I am down to 3 bags: Dooney work bag, LV, and one RM. I am having a hard time waiting until January to buy a bag. I'm trying to explore other designers also. I am finding that I am almost exclusive using my Dooney work tote because I'm too lazy to change my bag out on the weekends. Go figure.

janinevs good job on not buying anything--it is always my first thought too to start looking for a bag when I receive a windfall. Have fun on your trip and be safe!! It sounds so exciting! My idea of a trip is Lake Tahoe, LOL so yours definitely rocks!

tejas How about a nice piece of jewelry, a mother's ring perhaps?

Totally with you conniec - it's a bit scary to start purging bags but I've found I haven't even missed the ones I thought I would!! I'm down to 7, planning to buy another when going overseas soon and will then probably purge another 3-4. I am planning ultimately to stay at less than 10 at any one time and if any new ones catch my eye, one has to go.

jx-- the jewelry is a nice idea but I wear the same few pieces all the time and am very content with what I have. I am so impressed that you are down to three. I don't have very many bags, and there are days I wish I could get down to three, but my number is higher than that. Still single digits, though.

I took some inexpensive bags I no longer use to Dress for Success and it was a great experience. So nice to think they will be put to good use.

Klj, hugs, I'm sorry for your loss.

TejasMama, I love donating to dress for sucess! What a great idea.

As for me I've been a total slacker and have not listed anything in awhile. I really want to clean out a couple of items, so I must find the motivation to list. No idea how to do that.

I had a weird convo about a $4 bag my MIL bought this weekend --- um, part of me was thinking omg she would die if she knew how much my bags cost part of me was like, really, why get an ugly $4 purse?? There are cute, cheap bags out there, but this thing was not attractive. :p

Anyways, I'm really happy with my current collection!

tejas I just thought I'd throw the jewelry thing out there, I am like you, I am happy with what I have and really don't rotate too much. I really like the idea of Dress for Success!

Lee my MIL doesn't get my bag thing either! I have finally just realized that we all have our own loves and interests. Hey some us have awesome bags and some of us have awesome unicorn collections. Whatever floats your boat!

When I was home at my parents’ house this weekend to help them purge old stuff to prepare for a move, I had a long talk with my mom about my uncertainty about my future plans and something she said struck me – that she thought I had simple needs (other than my love of travel), and that I didn’t necessarily need to make salary a consideration with my career reevaluation.

After graduating in ‘06, I did a combination of grad school/working, and then full time the past 2+ years. I always planned to go back to school to advance higher in my current field, which I know I would be good at/would make good $$, but I keep putting off going back, and now that I’m near my personal deadline to go, I’ve been panicking/increasingly questioning whether this is a poor field for me as I’m worried about stress/unhappiness. So now I’m doing some soul searching.

Anyway, my point is that my mom struck on one of the things that’s bothered me lately, as my needs had been very simple, but I’ve gotten caught up in excess. When I was a grad student making probably not even $20k and working 2-3 jobs, I thought about my purchases a lot more and I didn’t buy everything I wanted, but I could buy everything I needed and was still able to treat myself from time to time.

I’ve made some more sales (though some buyers have been slow to pay : (. I’m going to try really hard to keep chugging along/clearing out, and putting the money into savings instead of a new bag. I think the less I see, the better I’ve been feeling, and I’d like to try to go back to living more simply.

Thedseer-- I really love your post. It's a great reminder that we are often happiest when we have a few well loved things we use often rather than an excess of material goods. It can be hard in today's highly-marketed culture and tpf can be its own bubble reality. I, too, am returning to simplicity and am really enjoying it. I just feel as though I enjoy what I have now with a more grateful heart.
