Ever love a brand until you found out something about it that turned you off?

When I was 16 I wanted a LV bag as a gift. I went to the LV boutique and the shop assistant asked me to try some bags.
She opened a big drawer where they kept the bags to try... they all looked so fake and cheap. xD
I bought a bag that day but I never really liked it and fortunately I was able to sell it many years later easily for more than what I paid.
I know it's a normal thing, but at that time it really turned it off for me. I don't mind old bags from other brands, but LV... meh

Just today I was looking for information on how the brand of handbags I use treat their employees overseas and I ran across the former employee glassdoor reviews and it looks like its a toxic work culture at Patricia Nash. It is giving me second thoughts.

Alexander Wang.

I fell in love with the black leather boots with the metal-plated notch in the heel for years before I saved up to finally buy a pair. I also had a bunch of other styles on my wishlist. A year later, the sxual abuse allegations came out about him. I was extremely disappointed and disgusted! But rather than burn or throw away my boots (I feel like people who recorded themselves doing that only did it for likes/attention), I vowed never to purchase from his brand again and educated myself on organizations that support survivors of sxual abuse/violence, groups which I’m still involved with supporting today.

Also, my boots are very understated but I would feel differently if there were obvious logos on them, though. In that case, I would have donated them.

For me it is Prada. Back in the 90s . Had the backpack , bag, all the SLGs. Then I read a interview about her doing costumes with either San Francisco or New York Met Opera company . She complained how she hated designing for the women singers who were size 10 and above. Saw her true colors . Sold my stuff and will never be back. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Alexander Wang, D&G, and Balenciaga are currently on my don’t buy list. Essentially, i won’t buy from companies that have problematic issues and don’t do anything about them.

Chanel, Vuitton, Gucci, etc., all have problematic histories, but I don’t hold the current owners responsible for things that occurred decades ago from people who are long since dead. D&G are a prime example. D&G made offensive statements several years ago, have double down on their statements, and they people who made those statements are still with the company. Balenciaga will be on my canceled list if they choose not to clean house.

My first high end bag was LV neverfull. And I only found out about vachetta after I purchase it. I didnt like how it changes color when exposed to sun and that it should not get wet. So the next LV bag I got it in damier ebene. I dont care about the brands history. Id care more about current practices. Like example, the issue with balenciaga. I dont want one that supports child pornography! Shame because they make good bags albeit very pricey

I used to (years ago) love Dolce. Love love love. The RTW fit me perfectly, which nothing does.

Now it's nope nope nope. Absolutely no interest in "art" created by hateful minds and lost all respect for both of them.
Worst offenders right now, imo.
KL was bad and they proudly took over and even surpassed him in the bullcrap department.

I absolutely LOVED Burberry but then realised that they have SO many made-for-outlet items and most of their main line items go to outlet for half the price most of the time. I still love Burberry, but it changed the way I looked at how much it's 'worth' buying at full price if you can get the same item a few months later heavily reduced at an outlet.

Another one is not aimed at a particular brand, or the fault of a brand themselves, but the trend of buying 'dupes' on Chinese wholesale websites (mostly LV or Gucci) gets under my skin so much and makes me feel conscious carrying bags that I have seen 'duped' over and over.

I also really don't like when brands become popular with rappers and are mentioned in rap songs :annoyed: along with obscenities about women, drugs, etc. - for me it devalues a brand (happened a lot with Gucci, LV, now Dior). Reminds me of this
Dapper Dan repurposed fake LV bags and luggage canvas in the '80. He also used no longer worn real fur.

In my mind he took fake and made it real.

Alessandro Michele was more than inspired by one of DD's LV/mink bomber coats 2017 but Gucci not only did a collab with Dan but set him up financially.
I actually enjoy this idea. There are so many fake bags that just end up in landfills… Fact that he would re-purposed them into something else is great

For me it's Coach. I live in a small college town, and there's a Coach outlet down the highway, and so everybody and their mother has a Coach bag here. I'm just sick of seeing them. I just hate how their outlet stores are everywhere and that just cheapens the brand imo. I feel the same way about Michael Kors. I hate his designs and I always hated watching him when he was a judge on Project Runway. I always thought he was obnoxious and self-righteous, so I don't want to support anything he designs.
