Yes we have tried some on and it's the halo that gets me! We are going to try on some more shortly as we are on holiday at the moment so will browse.

I'm so torn! All of the jewellers say a pave band solitare is not as classy which I disagree with but I feel that it is a halfway house. So confused!

I shouldn't care what others will think of my ring but sadly I do!

Seems odd to me jewelers would say that. Going through the engagement rings thread, there's so much variety from solitaire to halo to custom design and everything in between. While they aren't all my style, they are all amazing and absolutely gorgeous.

The most important part is that you and your fiance are happy with the purchase. Is he still focused on the solitaire?

I am confused with come comments though as I thought you were meant to keep the same ring for life?!!!!

Some do, but many don't. People lose their rings, upgrade them, change the settings etc. I got my first when I was 19, lost it got a nicer replacement. Years later got an upgrade. Kinda want another upgrade now, but I just got a new car so I'm waiting...

I'd spend the bulk of your budget on the best quality diamond you can afford. Your bf might realize it would be more economical to get the ring you pictured. I love big and sparkly and upgraded years later when we could afford it. If you get great quality now you can always get a different setting and your taste will change over time anyway.

It is something a lot of people upgrade/swap out after awhile.

To me a two carat total weight ring isn't any more likely to get stolen than a two carat solitaire, but that's just me.

I sent my SO a list of rings that were all very different where I'd love any of them and let him choose. He was originally dead set on a diamond where I wanted something pink (and a decent size pink diamond was nowhere near realistic).

Reality is though, if he chooses something and surprises you with it, you'll love and cherish it and say yes. Maybe let him pick it out as he has firm opinions? It may alleviate some of your stress with things.

it's a big decision so i can understand the stress of wanting to make the right choice. both rings are very beautiful and while the second ring is "classic" i think the halo is also classic these days. i think you should get what you love because you are the one wearing it! if halo makes your heart skip a beat, then sounds like you should go with it. halo settings will cost more than a plain setting and leave you with less money for the center stone, but it will also enhance your center stone and give much more finger coverage. so keep trying on both styles, and time will tell! both are gorgeous!

He is definitely more focused on the solitare yes. The more I look at halos the more I love them! Solitare is nice and plain but I'm really not a plain sort of person so do not think it suits me as much as a halo. If it were a halo I would also be happy to settle for a smaller diamond as I think it would make sense so that it is not too over the top and then that way it wouldn't cut into the centre diamond budget.

I think I may give him three styles and let Hol pick the final. All this stressing makes me feel ungrateful and materialistic! Maybe I should just shut up and get what I am given! I just don't want hm spending so much money on something I don't love.

Does anyone have anymore pictures to share of their solitares/halo/pave band rings?

One thing to keep in mind is if you use all of your budget to get the best solitaire diamond ering possible you could always reset it into a halo later...

For what its worth you are never ungrateful for choosing what you want, :smile1: it makes you a lady who wants to get the best your dear husband will give you. your just trying to gets the most of the budget, nothing wrong with that.

if your SO doesn't like halos have you considered a channel set band with a solitaire setting?

the cartier 1895 pave comes to mind but there are alot of other options out there, no halos, tougher than a micro-pave incase you bump into things but still has alot of bling. :sunnies heres an example. (pics are not mine)

Goodluck and update us on what you chose, picking out an engagement ring is such a delight, i can still remember mine 10 years ago. enjoy every moment. :D

That's beautiful. Perhaps as a thought I could go with the solitare, get a really bling wedding band to compensate and then get a halo cubic zirconia for a couple hundred pounds for the right hand?

Does anyone have any cubic zirconia halo rings?

Thank you! Or you could get the solitaire now and have it reset into a halo later...
