Expat - Liz had a HUGE heart and she took in all these stray animals (hence the name.) She directed that all her memorials go to an animal shelter nearby where she lived (Calif.) And was very funny and wise, jumping into more than one fray :graucho: here to try and diffuse things.
You are a Brit in Tokyo, how is that? I have seen your posts. All I know is the wonderful Sofia Coppola movie "Lost in Translation" and some Japanese literature (like the first known novel, The Tale of Genji by Lady Murisaki ,written in the 11th century!!...)

Just a quick reply before I catch up :smile1: I followed the trail to find out more about Liz, so tragic.

Hubby's job brought us here 3 years ago. I absolutely adore the place and will be very VERY sad to leave next year :-( It's been a wonderful experience - not great for my bank balance tbh, - a fabulous place for our daughter to attend school and just an all round 3 year slice of heaven.

And no, before I'm asked! I can't speak the language, sadly. Mea culpa.

^

I think a lot of people do it the other way around - they assume all dogs are male and all cats are female.

I had a male cat and people were always calling him she! :D

Now I have two dogs, one male and one female, but until recently I had three (one died, sadly), two boys and a girl - so maybe male's the default setting for dogs, for me, too?

My cat is a total GIRL! I outright call him "Princess Puff" because he perches himself so arrogantly on our couch like it is his thrown.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog, it is such a difficult thing to lose a beloved pet!

You are probably right about the "default" setting...dogs are messier and more masculine!

Happy shopping and I hope you are talking lots of photographs! I long to visit Japan one day...

:roflmfao:

I really miss having a cat - if we got another one, I think it would have to be a kitten, though, as I think it would be unfair to expect an adult one to deal with the dogs!

Mind you, depending on the cat, it might be more of a strain for the dogs!

Thanks, Amour. :flowers:

Yes, it was very sad - he was such a sweetheart and I miss him every time I go past the front door, where he used to lie.

For weeks, I sort of, subconciously, expected him to still be there and was upset when I was reminded he wasn't...

True.

Although, to be fair, female dogs are still very much girls in many ways, aren't they?

Very messy girls, certainly, but still feminine in their looks and behaviour. :D

Same with male cats, really - only the other way around, obviously!

^^Hi Chloe:yahoo: My cat was "raised" by three dogs (two females and one male) and I sometimes think she thinks she is a dog. Alfiebach knows the male (Ishmael) because he is the same (wire haired fox terrier) as her Alf -- a HANDFUL to say the least. They love to chase Badgers, and lacking that, ANYTHING that moves. But strangely he is very protective of "his" cat.

EM - What breed of dog is the grand dog? She looks like a Catahoula and is certainly adorable.

Hi Expat, CHB, AC, MMMSC, & Meno! Hope everyone is having a great Saturday!

Hi mmmsc! :D

That's so funny!

I always wondered whether a kitten might grow up thinking he/she was a dog, if he/she was surrounded by them! :D

So sweet how he looks after 'his' cat!

Hearing that, I think I might have to get a new kitten!
