EBAY "Authenticity Guarantee"

eBay authentication is NOT realizable. Seller sent me an authentic YSL bag but it was not the one that was in the listing. I then had to go through a lot of trouble and waiting, along with an appeal case and escalation to try to get the bag returned and refunded.
sorry to hear that, was the bag sold through ebay authentication program? or was it shipped to you directly from the seller?

Hi everyone, needing some advices here. I recently bought a Chanel classic WOC on eBay full set with all tags included but the original receipt, authenticated through eBay, I don’t really see any red flags. Would you still get the bag authenticated again from another site like Zeko in this case or would you trust eBay and simply enjoy the bag? Thank you
If you know of a rock-solid reputable Chanel authenticator, by all means do. That's a lot of money to take a chance, and Ebay's authentication service is murky. Who are the experts examining their Chanel? Is eBay using software for authentication, like Entrupy, rather than specialists? We don't know.

I sold my Chanel classic flap bag on ebay UK and it passed through the authentication process. I am still not relaxed though as I don’t think it’s enough to protect me from a a scamming buyer or someone who has buyer’s remorse? I don’t know when I will be able to relax about the sale. Has anyone sold this way?

I sold my lv psp and otg through eBay authenticity guarantee before. I didn’t have any problems. I was also very nervous about someone opening my packages but in my experience they did a good job.
As for seller protection, if eBay already have a record that your item is authentic and you’re not a scam seller, I think you have more chance that eBay will side with you if buyer opens a case. I imagine ebay wouldn’t refund the buyer that easily if they already authenticated your item. Without authenticity guarantee, eBay has no way to find out if the seller shipped empty box or if the item was fake but they have a record of payment transaction so it’s easy for them to just refund the buyer.

Thank you, this is reassuring. I think I will give it a week at least after it gets to the buyer before somehow beginning to relax...

No, currently sellers don't have to pay any extra but I'm not sure if there's a mark up for the buyers. And I believe the authentication only applies to local sales. International sales don't get authenticated.
The authentication applies to international sales as well. I recently bought a bag from a seller in Japan and it was marked “authenticity guaranteed”.

I've purchased two bags from eBay (both international sales) that went through authentication. Both bags were authentic and as described, although IMO there were some water marks on one bag that weren't very clear in the listing. That bag was returnable and returning it was not an issue at all.
eBay insists that they use human authenticators that personally handle each bag. Someone else here on the forum had an authenticator reach out to mention that the bag being examined had some major undisclosed condition issues, so, this seems plausible.
If you are selling, know that eBay will un-package and re-package your item in their own bag and packaging (with a tag and a QR code that links to the authentication details); this happened to an eBay seller I know who is very proud of their own packaging. I don't know if you can ask them not to do this.

Since authentication is listed as "offered free for a short time" clearly either sellers or buyers are going to be asked to pay for the service at some point. :shrugs:

As a seller, I have had quote a few LV and Hermes items sent to the authenticator. No issues, seems like it's received and within a day or so, it's off to the buyer. I did have one instance where they sent a pair of shoes back to me saying they didn't match the "description", even though I listed them as pre-owned & had clear photos showing the details/condition---I was not pleased with that, but didn't waste time disputing.

I have also purchased a few things using their "Authenticity Guarantee"; no major complaints about the process, and items were received in the ebay dustbag, albeit the packaging wasn't consistent among the items. I, however, would definitely get a 2nd authentication if I were buying something expensive like a Birkin, Kelly, HAC, or something from Chanel.

Yes, perhaps they are gathering enough "data points" by doing it gratis...then when they feel 100% confident in their authenticator and public reliability, then they may [hopefully not] start charging for the service.

that’s a pity they returned your shoes, maybe they didn’t want to authenticate them? did You end up sell them on another app?

Yeah I was pretty pissed about it, but I figured it would have been more of a hassle to try to fight that and deal with that. So I just relisted it and was overly explicit in the description and sounded like a broken record in the description and sold them again on ebay with no issues the 2nd time. Lol.

Now there's some happy camper with a beautiful pair of shoes that were only worn one time!
