E-ring Diamond - Cushion Brilliant Vs. Radiant?

I love cushion!! We've been kind of sporadically looking and found hearts & arrows cushion cut stones online. I haven't seen a cushion H&A in person (the jeweler we were working with at the time didn't know they were out there) but the goodoldgold site has videos and wow. Definitely something to check out!

i have a radiant and i love it. when i looked at the cushion vs the radiant i thought the radiant was more unique and had more fire. it all depends on the stone though. plus my radiant is perfectly square which is rare. my reason for getting the radiant was because i had always wanted an asscher but they lack in brilliance and fire-so i chose the radiant which is a hybrid between an emerald and a round brilliant. in the end, it is all about preference. if you have any more questions, feel free to pm me. good luck!

I love the cushion! Also consider a flanders cut. That's what I actually have. They are cut to sparkle. It's an eight sided ring that is basically a square with the points on each of the four sides cut off.

I prefer the cushion, but I don't know which sparkles more. I think it depends on the stone. Ask the pricescope.com people, they would know about the cut and sparkle issue.

I think the cushion may have a little more fire and sparkle than the radiant of the same quality. Round brilliants supposedly have the most sparkle because of the faceting, and the cushion is going to give you a similar sparkle in a more "squared" shape. It also has a nice vintage feel which is very popular right now, but will also look great for many years. You might also look at the Tiffany Lucida cut. Something else to consider is the size of the stone. If you are looking in a 2 carat range, that won't be an issue. But on smaller stones the cushion may lose some "presence" compared to the radiant. I would look at both in person. You will find that one stone speaks to you over all the others!

Oh, I forgot to mention size. I'm looking around 3 carats...

It seems that it's necessary to view these in person, but my bf wants to get the diamond from a broker in NY (we are on the west coast). I don't know how I will get to see it before buying it in this scenario. Is there any way to purchase these cuts without seeing the exact diamond in person, or do I need to consider flying there??

Who knew diamonds would be so complicated :shrugs:

I personally would consider flying out once the broker has a grouping of diamonds that fit within your parameters. Flying out makes sense once considering the cost of shipping with insurance unless the broker is going to eat all the shippping expenses.

You should fly and see stones in person. Either way, you will still ship to save the tax.

I buy most of my items from 2 jewelers in NY...shipping is always included in the price...not extra.

One other item of note, you want to see it in person so that you know you love it. Once items get really expensive, it is ultra hard to ship it back. You can only use USPS.

Just to close out this thread - Pricescope if definitely the way to go! Since being referred to it, I'm absolutely obsessed! I will be going the cushion route after seeing all the beauties on there :D

Thanks for everyone's input!

Where on the west coast do you live?
They are both beautiful stones and I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.. I have a 5 carat radiant and I chose the shape because my husband likes the emerald shape, but I wanted something with lots of sparkle!!! So it was a great compromise! Good luck and let us know your decision:smile1:
