How do you feel about the pebble grain? My newest bag, the small zip satchel, I love by the way, but it has a strong chemical smell to it.

Love pebble grain, especially if it's a bag that will get soft with use, like a drawstring. I've never gotten a new bag with a bad smell. Maybe the red dye of the interior you smell? I'm afraid I don't know. Edit: Oh I just realized you mean in relation to ordering pebble leather from ILD. That's no problem. Anything but florentine.

Try airing it out for a few days, unstuffed, no dust bag or plastic, in a place with air circulation.
If it still smells after that, you have a decision to make. The smell may
dissipate over time or you could put charcoal packs inside, BUT, it is possible that
the bag will always have that chemical smell.
I don't know if it comes from
a dye or leather processing chemical or from a disinfectant used during shipping.
In my personal experience, since I am sensitive to odors, the smell never goes
away and I end up giving the bag away. So I have learned, if the bag has an
odor I don't like and it doesn't clear from a few days airing, I return the bag.
Even if I have to pay return shipping, for me, it's one of those deal breakers....

Bags in the store almost never smell if they have been opened and are on the
shelf. But packaged in plastic, the smells seem to blossom.
I haven't gotten a Dooney with an odor in many years. But, it used to happen
with some of the pebbled leather bags over 10 years ago.

Gosh. 2023 has been EPIC with many great deals and awesome hunting of new and discontinued handbags. I found and captured my unicorn Tilton twice and I couldn’t be happier. I now have a very nice sized varied collection of Florentine leather. I need another storage shelf as I will add my vintage coach to my display. I’ll be off work and on vacation for the last couple weeks of the month and working on cleaning/ conditioning my vintage coach…

@lavenderjunkie the next good sale I’ll be going to the store and hand picking, sniffing, and trying on new styles. Gotta keep that store open by frequently buying from there
LJ - gave some real good advice a few weeks ago - avoid Dooney & ILD after the new year, they’ll probably be all returns.
