Does your LV canvas bag smell?

Well after spending $1,370 on a new bag it shouldn't smell like chemicals OR glue.

I feel that LV has done something regarding their manufacturing that is not positive. The more that customers complain about these issues the better.

Squeaky wheel and all that. Otherwise I guess they will gladly take people's hard earned money and not think twice about it because if people don't speak up then they basically don't have a voice.

It's like not voting and then complaining about who got elected.

You are absolutely right about that. I will definitely call and tell them. I left the bag in the balcony all night and the smell is almost gone. I will wait till tomorrow morning that the Boutique opens and ask them as I doubt they have another piece. Because of the situation in Greece they don't bring in so many bags but since I bought that piece they might have brought another to replace it. However, I will have to ask them if that one smells too. I wouldn't want to travel all this way just to exchange my almost ok bag for another one which smells even stronger. However, I am disappointed because I never had these problems in the past. Also the previous Speedy 25 B Axur I bought didn't have the padlock and keys in the box and the small pochette. It was just the small box. This one had the pochette as well. I don't like that quality is dropping and apparently the service too. I never had to hang up and call again after nobody picking up the phone in the past. Now, even thought there are not that many customers they don't pick up the phone, they rarely reply to emails or sms messages. I am so sorry for this.

Let me update you ladies. So today I called LV and told them about the smell. Of course the smell was less than the day I bought it but I don't want to have the bag in the balcony, I want to carry it as well. So the SA told me that they have another piece in store and I asked her to smell it. She said it doesn't smell anything and that she had heard before of the smelling problem with a suitcase and another bag. She told me to bring it in and have it exchanged. So I did, also because the piping was not straight as I may have told you and I didn't like it that much. I bring it in, I take the new one and it smells the same. I wonder how she didn't smell anything. The thing is that on this new bag the piping is perfect so I took the new one and left. I am not 100% satisfied as I don't like smelly bags that I the reason I never have them close to me when I smoke. I take them upstairs and keep them in my closet but what could I do. The SA told me that it was good I called and let them know of the problem as they take into consideration all customer's complaints and they report to LV but lately as she said nothing changes whether we report or not. Now I still have my bag outside and when the smell is less I will use it hoping it will go with time and the techniques some of you ladies suggested.

Thanks a lot for the support and your ideas.

Congrats on exchanging it, I believe the new chemical smell will dissipate but the twisted piping was there to stay. It was the right move and hopefully you can start enjoying your new Speedy soon :speedy:

congrats on the new bag! I do hope the smell goes away soon. speaking of a speedy b 25, i just got myself one in DA last week and I wonder if the SA mentioned to you about the new model/design of speedy b. Mine has little stuffing underneath the 4 pieces of leather that holds the handles. the SA said it's 2015 thing. I wonder if yours has them too. sorry if I should have opened a new thread for this, it's just because you just had the same type of bag, hun. TIA 😊

Yes, mine is like that too. Both Speedys 25 B I got are like that the DA and DE.

So last update! After 4 days outside the smell is almost gone. I sprayed the interior lightly with Febreeze and now it is almost gone. I guess with use it will totally go away. However, I am not happy my bag had that smell. Out of curiosity and since I am visiting Paris next week, I will visit LV and ask for a Speedy B DE to see if they have this smell too. I will let you know.

I hope you're still loving the trouville! I'm receiving a mono this week myself. I love all the pockets and style. I'm worried about the smell issue. Did the smell ever dissipate on yours?

Hello!

I got the crayon term from Yoogis who has a few posted stating that they have that odor, which they say is common in this style. What I think the smell is, is wax (I believe what crayons are also made from) I'm sure they coat the lining with wax or something similar to make it washable. This wax probably starts to smell over time. Again, not a terrible mold, mildew, or cigarette smell, just a wax/plastic smell.

That's what I am thinking at least

I have the EXACT same problem with my trouville !!! I've tried wiping it down, airing, putting air freshener sheets inside, nothing has worked! I love the bag but the smell is pretty strong, to the point of sticking to my hand when I reach in for something. The items inside the bag have the same smell, I think from the waxy substance rubbing off on my hand or the items. :-( Have you figured out how to get rid of it?
Here are some threads I am going to dig into but wanted to see if you've had better luck since it's the exact same bag with the same smell.

To be honest, I gave up and sold it. I just couldn't handle the smell. If I left the bag open sitting somewhere it made the entire area smell like wax/crayons. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

I also bought a pre-loved trouville and the seller decided to clean the inside with something that made the bag smell like oil/wax. I’ve tried everything and it is now faint but still lingers right when I open it. I’ve tried: coffee grinds (no good) washed the lining with tide, oxy clean and bleached ( yes I know it’s awful but i needed to try something), used lemon juice and finally baking soda. So far the last resort helped but it’s still there. Anyone have any other ideas?

Hi everyone
I recently ordered a neverfull mm ebene from Fashionphile. Really nice condition, old style lining, and made in France! I got it for a pretty reasonable price too. The only catch here is it smells. It’s not horrible but is absolutely noticeable- I smelled it as soon as I opened the box. I was very surprised this wasn’t mentioned at all by Fashionphile in the listing (I went back and double checked it just in case I had missed something). I’ve tried airing it out, left a box of baking soda in it, left it outside on my deck, etc. Still smells like it’s been sealed up in someone’s closet forever. Just a musty, stale smell. Is there anything else I could try that doesn’t require too much effort? I like the bag a lot and don’t really want to return it, but I didn’t sign up for a gross smelling bag and find it annoying that they didn’t disclose that in the listing.

I purchased a pre loved bag before that smelled strongly of the previous owners perfume. While not unpleasant, it was not my “cup of tea”. I kept it out, in my closet, not in a dust cover to let it air out. It took a few months, but eventually the smell disappeared.

That being said, I’ve been told that used coffee grinds absorbe odors. Maybe put you used grinds in a sandwich bag and keep in your bag for a bit??? How long did you use the baking soda. It might take longer than a few days regardless of what you use. Good luck :flowers:
