Does your LV canvas bag smell?

My Pochette Metis purchased last Sept. had a strong funny smell. Can't tell if it's glue/glazing or the canvas but it was mostly the inside of the bag. The smell doesn't go away easily as I tried so many different things. Best is to let it air out. The smell only now has faded and it smells like a new LV bag. My assumption is that they used too much of something.
If it bothers you I suggest exchanging it. At first I regretted not exchanging mine as I thought the smell would never go away.

Thank you all for the replies. I wonder if it is a new material glue that is being used. Kelly was your speedy made in France? My wallet was. I probably should have exchanged it but I figured the odor would fade. I got it at the Vuitton boutique in Saks.

Mine was made in the USA. The smell has gotten better and doesn't bother me. It wasn't horrible, just not the same yummy LV new bag smell, ya know what I mean?

I had a clemence in mimosa that smelled so strong! I actually took it in right before the 30 day return period and kept store credit for 2 months until I re bought in fuschia. What color is it?

Forgot to add that when I returned it the SA seemed to think it was something with the dye used for coloring the leather interior. That's why I asked what color. Mine didn't smell bad until I unzipped it, though.

Was it the damier josephine with red interior? There have been problems with the red leather smelling strong of glue. And apparently it doesn't go away. I would return it

Mines doesn't smell bad until its open. It has yellow interior. I should have returned it sooner. Its been well over 30 days now and I have been using it everyday so Im not sure if they will take it back. I guess asking doesn't hurt.

Worth a try. I know I tried airing it out for almost the full 30 days and it seemed no better.

I have the clemence in mimosa and I realized it smelled that way after I arrived home from a trip to another state. The smell wouldn't go away no matter what I did and I almost sold it. I folded up regular newspaper and placed it inside the wallet and zipped it shut. I couldn't believe after a couple of days it was smelling much better. You could give the newspaper a try :)

Hi fellow LV lovers!

I have a question about a wallet I got for Valentines day. I love it, its the Josephine Wallet however it smells. Is this typical for the wallets? This is my first one. I thought the odor would lessen up but its been 3 months now and it still stinks like burnt rubber. None of my other canvas pieces (purses) have ever smelt like this.

I did try airing it out with no success. Anyone have any tips?

Funny to read this as I too just reacted to my Milla Pochette MM. I got it from LV, Selfridges In London. Smells like a chemical😝
I got the same one in Austria and it smelled so good! But had to exchange bc of defect.
I just noticed another defect on this one.
What's happening?? Both are made in France. Are Louis Vuitton dropping the ball...?

I would take it to LV and see what they say. It shouldn't smell bad. The only LV that smelled "weird" for me was my Mon Mono NF when I first got her. My Azur NF smelled a bit too ---both NF's were MIF---It was definitely a leather smell though and it went away over time. You shouldn't have to put up with burnt rubber!

Just realized I needed to follow up to this. First off thank you all for your advice. I did call down to the store and I spoke to someone who recommended I bring it in to be checked out. The first SA I went to treated me horribly so I kindly asked her to get me an SA who was not too good to help me and she brought someone else over who was so kind and we just chatted about all things LV. He said he noticed that there was an odor and suggested I try a dryer sheet. I told him I was nervous about that approach but he said it would be ok so I did it and it worked like a charm. I definitely didn't want to exchange the wallet because it has meaning as it was a special gift from my fiancé. Anyways that's the story.

My multicartes stinks to high heaven of glue.Hope it vanishes pretty quick.

Oh wow sorry to hear that maybe try airing it out or call the store and ask for advice.

The first SA I brought my wallet into got angry at me actually and rudely said "you brought your wallet in for it to be smelled Im not smelling your wallet!" That's when I said " I brought it in because like I just told you that's what I was instructed to do over the phone so can you please go get someone who isn't too good to help me". You would think I was asking her to smell my armpit all I was doing was trying to describe my situation at that point.

I'm sure it will disappear in time. If an SA talked to me like that for no reason I would be politely asking to see the manager.

I probably should have reported her but she was just one of those SA's who have a superiority attitude because they are selling expensive items and I didn't feel like wasting anymore of my time on her since I did have other things to do that day so I just cut her nonsense short and asked for someone else. Most SA's are wonderful and very helpful. The SA that she brought over who I think was the one in charge was very pleasant and we got along well and he was very helpful so I left the store with my questions answered.
