Eeek! I just got out of the shower when I took that webcam pic, I don't usually look so hideous. All that aside, the guy at Tiffany's said it was a round 4-pronged solitaire w/emerald-cut baguettes on the shoulders. The "body" or gallery is all open-work, so as to allow maximum sparkle and brilliance.
The picture does it NO justice. It's a stunner - at least, in MY book :p

Hehe, yes Three Olives, your ring is DEF Tiffany and it DEF has four prongs. The classic solitaire has no diamond accents on the side and comes in the knife-edged band with six prongs. Yours is a twist on the classic. It looks beautiful and I know how wonderful it must look in person. Pictures never do our jewelry justice!

This is what the classic solitaire looks like: http://www.tiffany.com/Engagement/Item.aspx?GroupSKU=GRP10001#f+0/0/0/0/0/0

Why, thank you! I think so, too :) It's so easy to become caught up in rings and weddings and dresses, etc.. that we, as a whole, forget that it's not important if the ring is an enormous 5ct Tiffanys or a ¼ct on a band - in the end, the ring represents love and fidelity :smile1:

yes, it has emerald-cut baguettes on the shoulders. It's also set in platinum. Maybe the 2 emerald-cuts are what's pushing it up over the 2ct mark? I find it stunning. Should I be disappointed? What is RB? But, can you see the 4-pronged setting on it? This is from Tiffany & Co, so they do make them... esp b/c my ring was of such high quality.

You have one of the classic Tiffany styles. We were confused because the RB solitaire with NO side stones only comes with six prongs, unless it is 3+ carats. You don't have the plain solitaire, you have one gorgeous ring!

I think you have a 2ct center, not including side stones. Your folder should have all of that info, but my Tiffany three stone round brilliant ring is 2.07 carats total weight and your center looks much bigger than mine. ;) If I had to guess, your ring is probably 2.5 ctw.

thank you, and you are right: the ring is ~ 2.5cts in total. But, the setting is so lovely that it doesn't look kitschy or garish. I have a size 6, very long fingers, and it IS large, but not overbearing. Besides my Tag SS watch, and 2ct (total) earrings, it's the only jewelry I usually wear (for daytime at work).

Congrats Three_Olives on your engagement and gorgeous ring!

Thank you for summing it all up, Gimmethebag! I suppose everyone agrees that all RB (Round Brilliant) solitaires from Tiffany under 3 (or 5?) carats do not come in FOUR prong setting. So the 4-prong solitaire I saw at the wedding in the original post is NOT a Tiffany original. Thanks again for everyone's input!

Ok so I came upon this thread as I was curiously seeking the same question regarding a 4 prong setting; and please forgive me before I say it.....
(Thinking of diplomatic way of expressing my feelings regarding the wedding scenario....)

Ok-im just gunna say it-I hope you gave that couple a lava lamp as a gift cuz they have poor taste!
I drool over many things, but if I cant afford it, I work within my means. That means if I cant even afford the ring to properly represent my wedding theme, I work within reason and go with another theme...

Why commit debauchery when its still possible to win with simple authenticity. Or better yet, rather attempting to impress using fake innuendo marry for love.

The best wedding ive ever been too was planned in month due to unexpected pregnancy, and the love between this couple filled the room with suchIlove for each other I didnt see notice anything beyond the passionate happiness of the newly married couple.

again, my apologies for being so harsh-but a wedding that begins based on attempts to impress others as opposed planning based on personal happiness is mildly depessing....
