Hi everyone~

I went to a Tiffany-themed wedding over the weekend. The couple has the original and/or some forms of variation of Tiffany Blue tied in to every detail of the wedding--from the invitations, the gifts to the bridal party, bridemaids' dresses, the settings at the reception, the cake... You get the idea.

They had a montage session during the reception. And in one of the pictures shown was the bride's e-ring on top of a Tiffany box. I was admiring the "Tiffany" ring, and thought something was off...

I just saw the picture again on FB and realized that this ring has only 4 prongs. I thought I read somewhere that Tiffany makes only 6-prong settings for RB diamonds, while Cartier does 4-prong? I did a search but I couldn't find the thread I was looking for.

Not that there is anything wrong with having a custom-made ring. My e-ring was purchased from Robbins Brothers 6 years ago and I am still in love with it. I tried on a 3-carat RB solitaire at Tiffany about a year ago (which was a little over $165,000, btw, I almost dropped the ring when I saw the price tag). I remember it was a 6-prong setting. Maybe Tiffany is known for their 6-prong settings but they still make 4-prong settings for a small number of RBs?

Tiffany experts, does Tiffany currently offer any RBs in 4-prong setting?

Tiffany and Co only offers the 6 prong setting. Maybe because the ring was a Tiffany-style ring (term used to describe many simple settings), they thought they could show the ring on the box.

For some reason I seem to remember seeing 4 prong solitaires - but I think they were "exceptional pieces," six prong is the most common one and it probably wasn't a Tiffany setting. Normally I'd say the ring on the Tiffany box is kind of lame (but a personal choice) but if you are having an entire Tiffany themed wedding I think you kind of have to go in that thematic direction, lol.

I've seen a four prong solitaire but it was also a 5ct stone... Usually above three carats, Tiffany will have settings unique to that stone (double shanks, yellow gold, fancy shape side stones) that they do not offer for more average sized engagement rings.

Was the stone particularly large?

^^ Lol, I was hoping someone would say that :p

Thank you, Antiqueshopper, Gemmethebag, Shopaholic_Tasha, Kohl_mascara, Kat99 for responding to my question. The bride's solitaire is probably around 1 ct, so it's definitely not one of those exceptional pieces.

To me the montage picture falls into the "false advertising" category--especially with a bunch of (real) Tiffany boxes (gifts from the groom and bride to the bridal party) being tossed everywhere at rehearsal dinner and at the wedding reception. Not that there is anything wrong with how they want to show the ring. It's just that my curiousity was killing me and I was losing sleep over it.

I wish I could post the picture on here, but it's watermarked and would probably get me in trouble if someone from the family sees this thread.
