Don’t care at all about the unboxing experience or presentation. I’d be upset if I ordered online and the item/its box was not protected with appropriate packaging materials though

Same here. Couldn't care less about pretty packaging, just if it's protected enough to not be damaged during transit. I've had bags that have been poorly backed but had no damage, so I wasn't upset. I only care about the bag or accessory I ordered.

I like nice, thoughtful packaging - both when shipped and in-store purchases. I appreciate a brand that takes the time to make the experience something above average. Is it necessary - not at all. And I'm happy to buy from brands that don't go "above and beyond" in this area. But I do enjoy the extra something when opening my Louis Vuitton, Tiffany, Chloe, etc packages and slowly moving through the packaging to discover my new beauty. Coach does a nice job as well. It's not going to change my mind about buying a brand - but I do appreciate it and there's probably a part of me that leans toward certain brands as a result even if I don't realize it.

Well said! Exactly - it's not necessary (not make or break for shopping from a brand), but it is a nice bonus that is enjoyed. Great point about it maybe having an affect we don't even realize.

I am way over it. I usually unbox on my living room floor and snap a few quick pictures if I need to submit anything for insurance purposes later. Any packaging that can be recycled goes in that direction and whatever I need for proper storage goes to my closet or bedroom.

I can't remember the last time I cared about the unboxing process.

On instagram I see the occasional unboxing and I always imagine how that must feel. Gently take the ribbon off, opening the magnetic box, opening the dustbag, softly let it slide down and actually see the bag. In real life I get a box, act like an excited 5 year old and the bag I covet is unwrapped in a matter of seconds. After that I discard the boxes, nothing majestic about that.

I can remember the time that bags with their own dustbag were something special. But after a while, you'll get used to it. In the end, it is about the bag and not everything around it.

Honestly I think it's nice when the seller cares enough to package it safely and attractively. I don't know why, but it does make a difference to me. It's like getting a gift (that I paid for lol). When I sell a bag, I do the same.

How neat that you take extra care with packaging the purses you sell to make sure the buyer has a good unboxing experience!

Such a good question! I have been thinking about this a lot.

You think you don't care until you go to Top Shop, H&M or Zara or M&S and $300 of unfolded and piled up clothes are shoved to your side of the counter after zapping the CC. Without folding, without bag, without ceremony. NEXT!

You think you don't care until a pair of $700 Gucci shoes comes to you through Farfetch with a broken box, used tissue paper and no padding, never mind ribbon or Ltd Ed. packaging.

You think you don't care until NAP send you a scarf in a plastic bag inside a non-padded Jiffy bag with no box.

You think you don't care until Liberty puts your Alexander McQueen scarf in a old model and previously used Liberty box with someone else's initials on it.

You think you don't care until it's Christmas and Hermes gives you the ordinary box rather than their holiday one.

You think you don't care until Hermes sells you a hat for $800 and doesn't give you a hat box (because they've run out) and stuffs it in an orange paper bag ready for the 2 hour commute home on public transport.

You think you don't care until your favourite Dior highlighter powder starts to come in a thin plastic compact rather than metal.

Since we pay for the packaging within the price of these very expensive products we should get the full works with the cherry bow on the top.

I take your point about packing responsibly. I certainly don't want my things damaged or destroyed en route, whether I bought them in store or ordered them online. What I *don't* care about as much is colored tissue, branded boxes, and bells/whistles (but that may be because I'm always rushed and do everything in my life at top speed). I'm happy as long as my items stay safe on the way home, where I can either repurpose the packaging or put it in the recycle bin.

I don’t care about packaging. I like a nice Dustbag. Maybe it’s because all of my luxury items are secondhand. What I will say is that I was pleasantly surprised with cheapie bags that I’ve bought from Amazon. Stuffed. All hardware is wrapped in the styrofoam (?) and taped or has a plastic sticker on it.

I was also surprised to find my clothing items that I’ve bought from TheRealReal all came in a separate dustbag. Sunglasses, too.

Ditto on the H experience... they packed my Funk hat in a paper bag because they were out of boxes due to the Christmas sales rush. It is especially annoying as a proper box can help preserve the shape over time.

On a side note:
Brands that use lacquered boxes as part of their packaging really stand out in the world of paper boxes and bags.
