Does anyone *want* to wear out their bags?

I agree, but I meant your bags.

Oh okay...so far I've sold and given away bags I didn't want anymore. I have a couple that look worn but I'm not sure what to do with them, so I use them as occasional beater bags (LV and Rebecca Minkoff). I feel weird giving them away and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to sell them. The rest of my designer bags are in good shape because I take care of them.

I don't purposely want to wear out my bags but if it is a style I love then I don't mind it wearing out as i t means that I really enjoy wearing it. There are very few bags that I have worn to the point of having to ask the cobbler to fix it. One of them is the LC cuir. I love this bag when it first came out years ago. Worn it to many wonderful places over the years I could have sold it before it got really bad but I really want to keep it so I had the cobbler fix it. Here's an old picture of the worn out corners. I am like JVSXOXO. I wear out my bag until it is so used it’s damaged or I get bored with the bag. My collection is super small. I have a Gucci arabesque disco bag and a large givenchy pandora. That’s it. And I carry one of them everyday. I am pretty happy with a-one/two-bag collection. The pandora is getting quite the abuse but since it’s black a cobbler can help with upkeep I hope. But I can’t think of another bag I’d want to replace my pandora with so I will wear these bags until the day my heart is set on a new bag.

I find the Longchamps or any nylon bags do wear out, I managed to wear mine out, corners have pretty significant holes at this point... my leathers are hard to wear out... I’ve never managed to wear them out, i’ve given them away

I have a few that i am okay with wearing to the last drop so to speak lol. Sadly, i have also had quite a few that i barely used and were sold off instead.

I don't have a big selection of bags nor do i want too. I prefer to actually get use out of what i buy.

Just in case you didn’t know this: longchamp does repairs. They make a new bottom seam so the bag is about an inch or two shorter. They will only do it once per bag.

I did this for my mom’s longchamp. I believe I only paid for shipping. It was estimated to take 4-6 weeks. It came back after 4, maybe 5. No receipt necessary too! Bag came back resewn at the bottom. My mom loved it.

I don't want to wear out my bags but I do want to wear out my shoes and boots. Darn things go forever and I never actually need to buy more. But I want to buy more. Dilemmas.
Same way with my shearling coats.
Bags I wouldn't want to see show wear but then again I'm not at all careful with them and put them on the ground/floor and sling them around. But they don't usually seem to show anything. So I have to sell or trade or gift them when I'm tired of them.

I personally can’t stand the worn out bag or bags started to show obvious wears. I don’t mind wrinkles, they are actually very nice as adding baganality on the bags, but definitely not leather skin largely worn out or fades away, It drives me nuts. In that case I much prefer less expensive proper nite and tidy looking leather bag than lux brand but old and sad bag.

I'd like to reduce my number of bags. Years ago I used to carry one bag until it got worn (never totally falling apart) or I get tired of it. That would be a couple of years. Now I have about 12. Some are quite old - probably oldest is ten years from original sale. Some are premier designers, some contemporary.
How to decide which to sell and where to sell from? If they have obvious wear (light colored bags mostly) or damage, I'm reluctant to even try to sell them as I don't want problems with buyers.
Sometimes I'll think about which bag is marketable when deciding what to sell. If a bag is relatively new and just not for me, it will probably sell more easily.
I've donated tons of clothes but not bags. Have given some to my sister. She doesn't have as many bags as I do but one time when I offered her something she started saying she had too many so that kinda took the fun out of it for me.

Anyway I kind of envy your simplicity - two high end bags that you love. Congrats.

I don't mind when the leather gets soft and puddly but I do mind when there are obvious wear marks on the leather. I switch out and condition my bags enough to keep it from happening.

I'm not this way about bags but definitely with clothes, especially my jeans and sweaters. So much so that I use am app called Smart Closet to track usage. I had a Marc by Marc Jacobs classic q natasha in faded aluminum that I used every day years ago, I'm not rough on my bags though so it never really got any noticeable wear.

I do know what you mean and maybe I'll find a bag that I will wear, scuffs, holes I'll have to repair my hand, etc. I am also that way with toothpaste, lotion and food in the fridge/ pantry. I hate to waste.

I wore out a few back when I was a poor student. Im trying to remember what my bags even were.. I can remember my going out clutches (black 'accessories' little satin evening bag and a cheap silver primark clutch). I cant even remember my main day bag... that's bugging me now.
Once I got my first job I got my first contemporary designer bags, a mark by marc jacobs which was a pink Blake looking bag and an italian leather studded bag. I was so proud of those bags!!! They got worn pretty thin. Then I met my husband and he treated me to some new bags and since then I've had too many to wear out. My most used bag is an MK jet set tote that I used a lot carrying baby stuff around in, its still in fine condition it's just a bit stained. It would be nice to wear a bag out again. Maybe I will choose one of my favs and stick with it for a bit :).

I've worn out one bag. It was from college days, sidewalk sale, rubbery/latex kind of material the color of mustard, a flap, two straps and I got it for $3. I loved that bag into the ground. Best $3 I've ever spent.
I've had a similar situation at college as well. It was a hobo-ish tote of yellow printed fabric covered in clear plastic with a black rubber tube strap. I received sooo many compliments when I wore this bag and I wore it until it fell apart  I was so sad when the bag finally died. I can say it was my favorite bag ever!

I do not (and do not want to) have bags in a "worn out" state, so I strive to really take care of items as much as I can without full-on babying them. They are still things to be USED and hold my stuff at the end of the day, but I will never set a bag on the ground, chuck it around without regard, or store them in a random rumpled pile. They all go on a shelf when not in use, and into their dustbags when they're out of circulation for a longer period of time.
