does anyone know when is the July sale of Hermes in Paris?

Really? When I went Friday evening, an SA confirmed that Saturday would be the last day. There was still quite a bit left on Friday when I left, so maybe they'll extend it in hopes of getting rid of the shoes, hats, and rtw.

I was there and got an invitation - the Sale ends on Monday at 3pm.

I can add a little bit to the sale reports posted thus far.

I went at a different time of day this year than last year, and the line went much faster. I'm not sure if that's an indication that the sale was less crowded this year, or that I just had bad timing last year. But I was certainly surprised at the speed with which I got into the sale hall.

Having said that, there was some pretty outrageous behavior in the lines: lots of disputes over cutting (some of which was obvious, some of which was alleged). I didn't see any actual fights the year before, so this was new to me. From the behavior of some individuals you'd have thought this was a matter of life and death rather than just a sale! Rather amusingly, the French gentleman behind us in the line (wearing a relaxed but chic grey suit and matte black Hermes croc shoes) was called in by security to adjudicate several of these little skirmishes-- I guess he looked authoritative!

I was hoping to add more GMs to my collection, so I went straight into that line. I was in the group of 15 or so people third to be let in, so I got a fairly early viewing. Unfortunately for me, there were no cashmeres to suit my coloring! I'm therefore not well-qualified to give a thorough account of the patterns available... but I know L'Arbre de Vie was there in blue, pink, and probably a few others, as well as Paperoles in an orange colorway.

Sadly there were very few mousselines this year. Last year there were tons of GMs and PMs. This year there were about 10 GMs spanning perhaps 5 different designs, and one solitary stole (a fuchsia Jardins d'Armenie, which I tried on but decided wasn't as suitable for me as the blue would have been, which they didn't have).

GM silks included Astrologie and Kelly en Perles. There were a wide variety of colorways of the Jungle Love dip dyes. I also saw some lovely embellished chiffons-- some sort of sequined pattern-- but at almost 700 EUR on sale, I wasn't too tempted to look closer.

The 90cm silks had the best selection, I felt-- quite the opposite from my experience in the previous year's sale. Ex Libris en Kimonos in lots of colorways, Pegase in bright green, L'Art du Tamari, one Le Clerc reissue (can't recall the name of the pattern), L'Arbre de Vie, Magic Kelly in black, in purple, and in teal... and many others.

No small leather goods or belts, and the RTW had some prices on silk shirts that I felt were eye-rollers even on sale, but I did find some beautiful shoes. I wear a very common size and hit that section last, so that was a nice surprise.

I certainly did eliminate a couple of items once at the register, so that's definitely allowed. Ultimately, I left with one GM mousseline, one 90cm silk, and one pair of shoes. I would have liked to have picked up several cashmere GMs, but I can't say I'm not very happy with the items I did leave with. Both of the silks were actually on my wishlist for the sale, so I'm thrilled to have found them.

All in all, I would say that the sale this year had vastly slimmer pickings than last year's. To some extent this was objective (the mousseline count was very clearly inferior), but to some extent it was subjective (there just weren't GM cashmere colors that suited me, but the person I went with bought some absolute beauties that flatter her very much).

On the balance, I think if I were within easy traveling range next time around, I would go again... but only if I had company. In spite of the fact that the sale was less suited to my tastes this year, my level of satisfaction and happiness was much higher than last year just for having had someone to chat with in the line, and once we made it into the hall, a fellow Hermes connoisseur to give me opinions on colors and patterns.

Calexandre - I'm so glad to read your report. You're the best! Seriously, as soon as I saw your post I had to turn off the music to focus on reading :D.
That's unfortunate to hear about mousselines. I was really hoping for more mousseline designs. Also surprised to see that there're a lot of Ex Libris en Kimonos and L'arbre de Vie. These used to sell like hot cakes 1-2 years back. Did you see any Fleurs d'Indiennes 90cm?
Did you see any tPFer at the sale? It's great to have someone who speaks English to talk to, especially in France (I know no French at all).
Let me know if you're interested in having a silk company in January next year ;), of course if the weather is not too awful like earlier this year.

Thank you for sharing your experience, calexandre ! I usually go to H sale but was not in town those days. The situation looks same as it was at the winter sale : very few GM and mousselines, and as for cashmeres, not so easy-to-wear colours ... And I agree, crazy pricetags on RTW! Your finds though sound pretty interesting ! Waiting for some mod pics !

Chestnutty, I didn't see any Fleurs d'Indiennes in the 90cm, but they had them in the 140 size in three colorways. I almost got the bright blue version, but decided at the register to cull it from my stack. I actually think I prefer that particular pattern in the 90 for some reason.

I was surprised by all the Kimonos too, but perhaps I shouldn't have been, since just two weeks before the sale I'd bought a 90cm at the Selfridges boutique in London. They had five different colors in that pattern, all in little vellum envelopes that the SA dug out from their downstairs stock room. Of course, as soon as I had gotten home with the one I had purchased, I realized that it was likely that those vellum packages were destined for the sale... so I slunk back apologetically to make a return and bide my time for two more weeks. I'm glad I did, because there were indeed loads at the sale, and I was able to pick up a colorway I liked even better than the one I had chosen at Selfridges. While I'm glad to have gotten a great deal on something I really wanted, it is an eyebrow-raiser that these sales always end up having designs and colorways that have supposedly sold out worldwide.

As for January... that would be amazing to meet up for the sale! Maybe if H knows we're coming, they'll make more of an effort to have an adequate mousseline stack for us chiffon maniacs.

Last one.

Couple pictures from the 90 carre section. Sorry for the poor quality...DH had to be quick about it in front of security.

Nice shots, stephc005! Not at all poor quality. Your DH did well.

Anfang, as a seasoned sale-goer, do you think our respective experiences at the winter and summer sales are a sign the H sale is declining a bit, or dod you think maybe this was just an unlucky year? It sounds like you might have a multi-year perspective on the matter, whereas this was just my second summer sale.

Mod pics are a good idea. It'll give me an excuse to try on some new goodies. :D

Yes, calexandre, I do think so. As 90 are always numerous, I think you have less GM, mousses and jerseys, and in very flashy/neon colours that are not very sought after in Europe.

Moreover it seems to me that you have less and less hats. No belts, no SLG anymore the past 2 years.

To sum up, you still may find good deals with 90, and that's almost all. RTW is usually pricey and mainly in large sizes. And I never could find shoes in my size.

But I shall go on visiting H sale because a good surprise remains possible. Happy go lucky! 😉

Thank you all for giving us a glimpse of the sale, it was wonderful reading about you adventures and treasures. Keep the stories coming.

For those who attended where there any 140 cm summer twills available? Any Kachinas? What was your most unexpected find?

Can't comment on the twills or kachinas since I'm not sure, but my most unexpected find was H dog collars and leashes lol. I didn't see them the first day I went (wed) but saw a bunch of them on Friday.
