I can add a little bit to the sale reports posted thus far.
I went at a different time of day this year than last year, and the line went much faster. I'm not sure if that's an indication that the sale was less crowded this year, or that I just had bad timing last year. But I was certainly surprised at the speed with which I got into the sale hall.
Having said that, there was some pretty outrageous behavior in the lines: lots of disputes over cutting (some of which was obvious, some of which was alleged). I didn't see any actual fights the year before, so this was new to me. From the behavior of some individuals you'd have thought this was a matter of life and death rather than just a sale! Rather amusingly, the French gentleman behind us in the line (wearing a relaxed but chic grey suit and matte black Hermes croc shoes) was called in by security to adjudicate several of these little skirmishes-- I guess he looked authoritative!
I was hoping to add more GMs to my collection, so I went straight into that line. I was in the group of 15 or so people third to be let in, so I got a fairly early viewing. Unfortunately for me, there were no cashmeres to suit my coloring! I'm therefore not well-qualified to give a thorough account of the patterns available... but I know L'Arbre de Vie was there in blue, pink, and probably a few others, as well as Paperoles in an orange colorway.
Sadly there were very few mousselines this year. Last year there were tons of GMs and PMs. This year there were about 10 GMs spanning perhaps 5 different designs, and one solitary stole (a fuchsia Jardins d'Armenie, which I tried on but decided wasn't as suitable for me as the blue would have been, which they didn't have).
GM silks included Astrologie and Kelly en Perles. There were a wide variety of colorways of the Jungle Love dip dyes. I also saw some lovely embellished chiffons-- some sort of sequined pattern-- but at almost 700 EUR on sale, I wasn't too tempted to look closer.
The 90cm silks had the best selection, I felt-- quite the opposite from my experience in the previous year's sale. Ex Libris en Kimonos in lots of colorways, Pegase in bright green, L'Art du Tamari, one Le Clerc reissue (can't recall the name of the pattern), L'Arbre de Vie, Magic Kelly in black, in purple, and in teal... and many others.
No small leather goods or belts, and the RTW had some prices on silk shirts that I felt were eye-rollers even on sale, but I did find some beautiful shoes. I wear a very common size and hit that section last, so that was a nice surprise.
I certainly did eliminate a couple of items once at the register, so that's definitely allowed. Ultimately, I left with one GM mousseline, one 90cm silk, and one pair of shoes. I would have liked to have picked up several cashmere GMs, but I can't say I'm not very happy with the items I did leave with. Both of the silks were actually on my wishlist for the sale, so I'm thrilled to have found them.
All in all, I would say that the sale this year had vastly slimmer pickings than last year's. To some extent this was objective (the mousseline count was very clearly inferior), but to some extent it was subjective (there just weren't GM cashmere colors that suited me, but the person I went with bought some absolute beauties that flatter her very much).
On the balance, I think if I were within easy traveling range next time around, I would go again... but only if I had company. In spite of the fact that the sale was less suited to my tastes this year, my level of satisfaction and happiness was much higher than last year just for having had someone to chat with in the line, and once we made it into the hall, a fellow Hermes connoisseur to give me opinions on colors and patterns.
