Does anyone find it hard to use a non-designer bag after having designer bags...?

I don't think quality is restricted only to premium designer bags. I have been disappointed with the quality of some designer bags, and impressed with the quality of some non-designer bags. I look for what I like and what is well constructed and stylish - whether it is a designer or not. After seeing a lot of designer bags that are just not worth the price, I find myself actually more open to look at other bags.

Amen!
When one really knows quality, then one can find it in a variety of bags.

I am definitely in the "can't do it" camp. I have an old LV Alma that I bought from a friend who needed money several years ago and I use that for outings and dog walking and such. I leave my Balenciaga and Mulberrys at home on those kinds of trips. The dear old Alma is about 20 years old and still looks great but I don't have to worry about it getting rain spots or being set down on the floor because it already looks a bit rough and I paid very little for it. I'd rather that than spend the money, ANY money on a bag that looks and feels cheap to me. But of course "looks and feels" is different for everyone- I personally hate plastic or nylon zippers and won't even look at a bag with them. But I have friends who have no problem with that at all and they go on to lead perfectly happy productive lives! lol.

I don't find it hard at all---non-designer bags have a place in my life too (for rainy days & for days where I might have to leave it unattended for a period of time or I might be roughing it up).

i carry whatever bags fits my outfit. or what i feel like crying!

you dont need to be design all the time.. you can still look and feel great if its from somewhere else not premiere.

This past year I have fallen in love with many non-designer bags. I chalk it up to having so many bad experiences with the premium brands. If I'm paying 1000+ for a bag I expect it to be flawless. Unfortunately, I wasn't seeing that.

In my opinion, quality is not strictly the norm in premier designer bags, as there are many really well made under the radar bags out there. Just don't buy vinyl or straw or cloth and expect those bags to last for years.

The first thing I noticed after I got a designer bag was that I no longer wanted anything with a plastic/nylon zipper (my designer ones all have metal zippers).

I sometimes see non-designer bags that I like but I always talk myself out of buying them (doesn't make sense to me to have several good bags and use something 'cheap' - I don't really go anywhere that I think of as dirty (beach) or unsafe).

I still have a few non-designer ones and use them when I feel like it (to hold what I need for the day or to match an outfit).

The last time I looked at Coach I saw some with nylon zippers! I definitely wouldn't pay Coach prices for a bag with a nylon zipper.

Yep

I have a few non-designer bags that I enjoy using on occasion but lately I've been using my designer purses mostly just to make the most out of the money I spent for them.

I find it hard to do also, but this weekend I broke down and bought a D&B in the florentine. I only have 3 Bal bags and and LV Speedy 30 Damier. The LV was becoming my knock around bag and even at a mere $700.00 I felt I needed something more low profite. I'm hoping my new bag will fit the bill. It was very difficult to buy but I got it for 30% off I felt it was a good decision.

Yes!! I am definitely one of those people who gets a thrill out of walking around with a bag in my hand that I know costs thousands of dollars. It really isn't about what other people think because my bags of choice are usually leather or python, even if they're from LV or Gucci, and so the average person on the street won't recognize the designer. Twice I have backtracked and bought a Coach bag that caught my eye. Each bag was used a handful of times before I ended up giving them to family members. So, I have learned not to waste my money in the future. Carrying a premium designer bag just makes me feel good!

Don't have a problem at all. I carry bags to fit for the trip and purpose. Most of the designer bags don't carry as nice as my Kipling bags (and all the pockets!) at the park or children's museum. I also have couple of extoic skin clutches that are beautiful italian made but not designer brand. They are one of the kind, too.
