Hi Doc, I have just purchased, but have not received yet, a vintage Bolide in Peccary or Peccari (whichever). I have a few question please. Firstly how would I clean this kind of skin - if I'm correct it's a pig skin, so not sure if it would be a suede finish or leather. Secondly, how would I maintain it. I'm not scared of a project, I already refurbished a vintage Kelly to a lovely condition using your very good advice. Thanks

Hello, Pork skin is really cool stuff, the leather is top skin (not suede) it has large pores which lend to an interesting look. This is a semi finished leather and it has a wonderful transparence ... you will treat it like an unfinished leather and use products for unfinished leather successfully . Lets see what you have when it arrives... Stains will not clean off typically and when corners are rubbed away typically they are not touched up with color restorer as the whole bag will change color over time.... and then the touch u would be completely off .. does that make sense?

Hi Doc!

Considering the purchase of this used Etriviere briefcase and wanted to ask about the cleaning/care of the "hunter cowhide" strap and handle. Would lexol, black rock, and obenaufs work for the strap and handle as well as the fjord body of the bag? Also there's a small stain on the strap just below the buckle--does that look like something that would come out?

Thanks in advance!
R

The vache Hunter once its stained its pretty much going to stay that way. I would not use those products on the Fjord ... You can use cleansers for saddle leather or unfinished leathers do NOT use Lexol Conditioner you can use their Cleanser
I would not use blackrock or obenaufs except on the front on the lather and would prefer you didn't as this will make a sticky mess if the leather is rough out and it apprears it is.
I hope this helps?

Thank you, Doc! Yes, I think the strap is rough out Hunter.

So I can use Lexol PH wipes on the whole bag, correct?

Searching back in the forum it looks like you've said that Fjord is a very durable leather and probably only needs a light conditioning with Blackrock. Is that correct?

Is there anything I should use on the roughout Hunter to protect it or condition it? Or any cleanser that might help with the water stain?

Thanks again :)

Hi there,
You could wash the vache huunter with a wash cloth damp with clean luke warn water.. this may help blend the water spots.. a lexol ph following directions would be OK but you will want to rinse off residue
I would NOT repeat NOT use Black rock or Obenauf's on your Fjord leather.
There are better conditioners for this leather ... you would be fine with a lexol ph wipe .. and it will most likey be all you need.. there are some great spa kits out there which would take care of Fjord leather and the Vache Hunter... Do you think the Fjord is in need of conditioning?

Thanks for your reply Doc. Yes that does make sense. The seller did say that the corners were slightly rubbed, so best leave them alone then. She also said that there are a couple of biro marks on the interior, any suggestions to try to remove them.

Hi Doc, I got this vintage 1994 Kelly a few weeks ago. And I was wondering if there's anything I can do to make it stand on its own. Without the stuff inside, it kind of just falls flat on the table. I have attached photos for reference. Thank you so much! (The back looks soooo droopy)

Hi there,
Its going to flop and droop.. only a stiff purse insert or liner can help it stand straighter now.

Doc do you have any suggestions for my Epsom silk in wallet?

I'm not sure what it is or when it got there. I checked my purse where it was today and nothing spilled. Plus I keep my hand cream, gels, makeup in a separate pouch to avoid spillage in the purse. It kind of looks like an oil type stain as opposed to wet and it hasn't gotten any lighter since four hours ago when I first noticed it.

I don't mind normal wear and tear and certainly don't baby material possessions but I admit to being a bit annoyed at this since I've only had the wallet for two months and I don't even use it everyday.

Hip docride, I have a 20+ year old navy birkin in courchevel leather (sorry I don't know the Hermes color code for it). I have noticed that on the front left corner, there is a lot of rubbing and color loss.. What product should I use to fix it and add color back?, tarrago, meltonian, or? Also, can I use blackrock on courchevel? If so, should I dye the corner first and then blackrock or blackrock treatment first and then fix the spot?
Thank you so much in advance! :smile1::smile1:

Hello,
Do NOT use blackrock on heavy or modern finished textured leathers and that's what you have there... so no don't use iit.. it won't sink into that leather well enough it will mostly sit on top of it and make a sticky mess. There are many brands to choose from which make good color restorers and conditioners ... You will not want to use colored polish as it will slip off and could get on hands and clothing. I am not allowed to mention my own brand here on the thread and so I am getting tired of only mentioning our competitors. It used to be I would mention several brads and include ours and let you all choose which ever you wanted to purchase but that's not allowed either. So just google and find a good color restorer , leather paint or handbag color touch up kit.
You will want to do your conditioning first....and allow the bag to rest after that , then on another day clean the area to be color touched up and then apply the color ... OK?

Wow that's sad, Im sorry this happened. You might be able to have a professional recolor the wallet to cover that stain... but it will bee altered in hand feel if you do. I would not try conditioning the whole wallet with the same thing which stained it in the first place as I don't beeliev you will get an eeveen resul.

Aw that's too bad. Maybe I'll take it back to H and see what solution they come up with. It's on the bottom and I just use it as a wallet so in lieu of a quick and relatively inexpensive option I'll just deal with it. I guess light coloured purses aren't for me! :)

Thanks doc.

Thanks Doc!

I think the Fjord could use a light conditioning. Could I use meltonian lotion?
