I’ve just begun the restoration of a 1960 blue box and toile Trim I got for a song.
The bag has some issues (I expected, given the age and the price), I cleaned the leather and found out that blue dye was applied to the bag. Not a problem on the leather, but the dye obviously transferred to the stitching which was originally a nice white contrast stitching, I can see it in other parts of the bag.
Any idea on how I can clean the stitching and make it lighter again?

Hello there
Sometimes you can scratch the stitches with a blunt finger nail to get the worst off and then follow with a laundry stain lifting pen ... sometimes it helps some... (it can help if the stitching was just dirty not dyed ) but give it a try. And do take care to not get drips o to the bag, or to wet the box calf with over eager cleaning the stitching. Start with a hidden area first ( like the bottom panel) and make sure its not making things worse, before doing the rest of the bag's stitches.
Let me know how it's going.
All the best, doc

Thank you, I hope to find simithing similar here and give a try
You can also use a bit of bleach on a q-cotton bud (Q-Tip) cotton swab.. just make sure its not dripping wet, Id mix the beach with some water maybe 50/50 so its not going to disintegrate the old stitches. be very careful ... good luck !

Hi there, I’d like to touch up the edges of my fjord Kelly in either ebene or marron fonce. I’d like to buy some tarrago polish but not sure what color is best. Would you be able to suggest a couple for me to try? Thank you!

Hi,
I dont use that product in my workshop so i can't give you a color match I'm sorry. However you can by a dark brown and a black ad a white so you can mix tones
All the best,doc

and while I'm ordering the tarrago, I might as well pick some up for my potiron...any suggestions on best match? thanks Doc!
Hi Again
I dont use the tarrago in my workshop, so I cant give you colors to match from their product line. I would try buying an Orange, a medium brown, a black and a white to mix tones.
Good luck !

Hi docride
Have been reading your comments and appreciate your help. My very first time to seek your opinion.
I'm very interested in this box kelly but there's a leather crack as shown... I don't think H spa can repair it... What's your thoughts?
Thank you and wish you well.
