Dear Dorice,

Firstly, thanks a lot for giving advice and sharing your expert knowledge here.
I’ve seen this Kelly 28, Box, Rouge H today at an Auction House. According to the specialist it has never been touched - would you agree with that? There are some minor scratches overall which I do not mind too much, however, there is this white scratch on the bottom, the corners look really bad and it seems like the leather is dry (cracking?) near the closure. What are your thoughts, would the Spa be able to make the bag look fairly new, you think it’s worth buying? Or waiting for a Box from the boutique.

Thank you so much :)
X C

Hi there no repairable By H , possibly by a handbag repair shop with filler but this is a risk because it all depends upon the repair person , still at best the bag will be compromised from original so much it will effect its value.
I hope that helped
Sorry for late reply

I am not examining in person but based upon the photos I don’t see color touch up from here, the auction house probably uses special lights to check for recolor, if they say there is none ask if it’s checked ? All the best

Hi @docride, thank you for sharing your expert advice! Looking for your input on scuffs on the corner of my epsom bolide. It looks like the top “color layer” was scratched off. This is my first epsom bag and also my first damaged H bag! Shocked as I thought epsom would be more hardy.

I’ve read that epsom damage is more difficult to fix, is that true? Do you think the H spa be able to camoflouge these scratches on the corner? And is it true corner damage is easier to fix?

Appreciate your insight.

Thank you for your input

Hi there , thise scratches will remain but some color touch up will help make them less noticeable. I hope that helps ?
All the best doc

A good diy project in my opinion. You will probably need some color touch up… but try cleaning and conditioning first … that might make it present much better and you can be happy with those results .
All the best

Perfect. The seller is asking under 1000$ for it, which might be ok?
Sounds reasonable to me , authenticity is guaranteed?

@docride I need your help!

Is she dead?

I purchased this Victoria trousse online, knowing that she was dirty. But I was in the mood for a small project, and it doesn’t really matter if there is color transfer in a bathroom bag.

But when I finally received the package, it went beyond dirt. There were a lot of tiny cracks all along the top.

Did someone paint her and the paint crack? Is there a problem with the leather? Will it get worse if I started using her? What do I need to do to make her usable again?

@docride! HNY! I just received this Barenia Kelly but it came with a scratch. Any thoughts to whether this is more surface-level and fixable?
Hi there There’s a pretty good scratch looks like it’s got a bit of a cut with some leather lift ? That’s not repairable I’d just have the bag conditioned with spa service it will make it a bit darker which may make it look less noticeable it it’s not going heal the scratch .
Eventually you’ll have lots of scratches and marks … with time and spa treatments they will blend into a gorgeous unique patina.
Barenia gets distressed looking it’s a casual leather …
What a gorgeous and rare Kelly !
Lucky you !
Enjoy

Perhaps toddlers and ostrich bags don’t mix well… I learned my lesson too late. I believe that’s from a wet wipe that I was holding 😭😭 is there anyway of blending it out? Thank you

Yes, it’s cracked and dry. Not too stiff but not what I expected from Hermes leather.

Is it beyond saving? What supplies or what would I need to do?

Hi Docride,

I’ve read through some of your posts and admire your expertise on leather care. I was recently gifted an older Herbag by my mother (pre-zip pocket, so early 2000s), and while I’ve managed to moisturize it a little with Saphir crème universelle, I’m still struggling with some issues on the leather parts.

The vache leather has developed a lovely patina, which I really appreciate despite the water and oil spots but my biggest concern is the wrinkles and cracking on the leather. It doesn’t seem too deep, but I’m unsure if this is something that can be treated or if it’s a sign the leather is beyond saving.

I’m torn between keeping it as-is, imperfections and all, or sending it to H spa to replace the leather. I hesitate to replace it because I love the character of aged vache and find brand-new leather to lack the same warmth.

I’ve read you’ve recommended Meltonian all-purpose cleaner and conditioner in the past, but I’ve also seen mentions of waxing, washing, and other steps. Could you kindly share any advice on what you would recommend with this particular piece? Do you think it’s worth trying to salvage the original leather or preparing for eventual replacement?

I’d truly appreciate any insight or recommendations you might have!

Thank you so much in advance!
