Do you wear your designer bag to work/interviews?

I'm pretty sure that no one (ok.. maybe one lady and she probably wouldn't recognize it) even knows the brands, and I have no problem taking it to work. However, when I run errands on campus (collegetown) I get kind of embarrassed because I don't want people stereotyping me. I don't have any bags with blatant signature logos, but I still get self-conscious sometimes.

If I'm carrying something like Chanel or LV, then I tend to put them out of the way and hang them under my desk. I am very lucky in that I have a much higher household income than most of my coworkers, thanks to my husband, and I've gotten comments before about how lucky I am to be in a dual income household, how I can afford things, blah blah blah (and this is in spite of the fact that I really don't talk about my personal life at work) and I tend to feel a little guilty. Which, I know, is silly and I shouldn't feel that way- but it used to be that I didn't even feel comfortable wearing any of my nice jewelry or bags around them, because I just didn't want to hear about it. I've pretty much given up on that, as I shouldn't have to hide my stuff just because I don't want to make anyone feel bad, but I refuse to answer questions about how much stuff costs, or whether it's fake or not, and most of them have stopped harassing me about it now.

Sure. I don't do logos though, so I don't think anyone knows that they are even designer, to be honest. Where I live, Coach and Dooney are what is considered designer for the most part and if you don't care those, people assume it's just a normal bag from wherever.

what are the logos brand....? like LV and gucci?
i wear coach to work...not my LV and gucci's ....burberry....i wouldn't mind bringing a nice designer bag that nobody knows the price or brand! hehe :p

I got into handbags just over a year ago. The women I work with noticed right away when I started to change things up a bit and started carrying different bags and colors. They get a kick out of my bag habit and usually notice when I have a new one. My Belen Echandia Take Me Anywhere bag and my two Rebecca Minkoff Nikki bags get the most favorable comments.

Depends on where I've worked.

When I worked in non-profits, I kept that stuff on the DL. Didn't want to come off showy, especially around people who obsessed about money! They pounced on any new detail, a bag would have been a strong hold on conversations... I'm really private, and would have resented that getting in the way of my work time.

When I worked in a big money office, I couldn't have cared less. Wore what I wanted, when I wanted. They actually gave kudos around for current season shoes and designer clothes/bags! Even the men were up on fashion there!

Now, I mainly visit separate sites so no one knows me too well from day to day. I don't miss office politics at all!

Myself and the other interns wear more designer stuff than my office manager, no one cares. You buy things to wear and use, but our office is like a small family, so no one really cares either. I carry my purse to the office all the time, and the other interns are always have loubous to complete their outfits. It's the same to me.

But I'm sure every office is different

i know the feeling, it's something for me to enjoy but I know a lot of them would judge me for spending so much on a bag. They think it's out of reach but I think it's just a matter of choice :shrugs:

I have actually thought about this quite a bit. I work in an office and once worried about what people thought I spent on bags...like they thought I was shallow or something. Then I came to realize that it is silly to worry about it. While I work full time, I also play in local orchestras and wind ensembles and make extra money, which almost always goes towards fun stuff I purchase for myself. My close friends know this, but my colleagues don't. So just like you cannot know every aspect about your colleague's free time, they do not know abut yours - buy and carry what you want

If you want to wear a designer purse to work, you should! Don't worry about what others think of you. My only precaution is be careful your purse isn't stolen. I always keep mine in the bottom drawer of my office desk, and I lock it when I walk away from my cubicle.

Also, in my own opinion, I don't wear designer purses to interviews or the first week of a new job. Despite that I just mentioned that you shouldn't worry about what others think of you, I always want to make a good FIRST impression. I don't want to be known as the "girl with the expensive purses." I want to be known for my great personality and strong work ethic, etc. After about a week or two, then I'll start bringing in my designer purses.

When I say logos, I mean anything with a logo print that is easily ID'd- like LV, Gucci. But, also those designs really don't speak to me either. I do "smaller" brands in leather- people usually give me a blank stare if they even ask who the bag is by when you say something like Kooba, Botkier, Rebecca Minkoff...
