Do you travel with your H bag?

Hi Everyone,
Sorry if this has been discussed here, please feel free to move. My current carry on doesn't completely fit my Birkin and most of the carry ons I have seen doesn't fit my B. I don't want to use my B on the plane and I don't put anything too valuable in my checked luggage. Do you guys have any suggestions for a good carry-on that fits?
How big is your bag? I personally prefer Longchamp Le Pliage. But some other lovely tpfers use Envirosax. You can always just use the dustbag that your bag came with.

Interesting because I have only ever stored passports, important documents and jewelry in hotel safety boxes.

If I'm traveling with an Hermes bag that I won't be using that day, I just pack it in the largest piece of luggage I've brought for that trip and lock that piece of luggage. As a habit, I always just lock all my luggage before leaving the hotel room anyway. Surely that is secure enough?

^ I'm with you Leah. I travel with my Bs and Ks all the time and when I have to leave one in my hotel I just put it in my suitcase. In fact I don't even lock up my suitcase. Having said that I'm pretty picky where I stay - the Peninsula, the Mandarin Oriental or the Four Seasons - where I know customer service and security are the first priorities. And I learnt after the whole Dominique Strauss-Kahn debacle in New York that hotels know through the card readers who has come into your room and at what time. So I feel pretty confident in leaving my H bags hidden in my suitcase. Ultimately everyone has different standards and you just have to go with whatever standard suits you.

^ MrsJDS, I imagine stealing a big Hermes bag from a hotel room is really difficult to pull off (although am sure with enough creativity, it could in theory happen....)

And yes for sure more reputable hotels have much tighter security these days and I think it's still the usual items like jewelry, watches, wallets, cash that are at greater risk of being taken.

Reminds me of the incident a few years back when Anne Bass (the wealthy socialite) sued a prestigious hotel in Asia when she reportedly lost a giant diamond ring (JAR Paris, no less!) and alleged that this was taken by hotel staff WHILE she was inside the hotel suite having a massage (if I recall.) Scary stuff. And she lost that lawsuit, btw.

We definitely all have our standards...I don't worry about my H bags being stolen from a hotel room as unless a thief is specifically tracking me, money, jewelry, and something obvious like Chanel seems way more likely to be stolen (I hide the small flaps I sometimes take on trips). I do put my passport in a safe as losing that will not wait for insurance to kick in!
I do have a friend who keeps a "nanny cam" in her hotel rooms (in a cosmetics case) and I kind of like this :p

Ohmygosh you guys - am I a completely silly goose for just leaving my H bags lying around on the hotel sofa when I'm not using them? I usually travel with my Evelyne, Kelly, and a Dior clutch so if I'm using the Evelyne that day, the kelly and clutch just hang out on the sofa or desk in the room. I usually only lock up my jewelry in the safe. I guess I think staying in a nice hotel is some sort of insurance against theft but maybe I'm being too naive? I think im going to go and buy a lock and do what Leah does - put the bags in a suitcase and lock it up during the day.

I carry all of my nice bags inside of a Longchamp Le Pliage when traveling. They remain in pristine condition. Plus- you have extra room for shopping! I use the second to largest Le Pliage (travel one) for my B40.

Thank You! I'm definitely going to check it out does it if super comfortably could I fit maybe two Birkins? Do the Birkin handles stick out?

I travel with my Hermes bags: Birkin, HAC, and Evelyne. And I don't take any special precautions - I don't put them in dust bags when going through airport security or when stowing them in the airplane. Hermes bags can handle being used; people should just relax.

I'm traveling with my k32 on wednesday and after reading this thread I almost thought I was a bit too casual with her. Granted, my flight is 7 hrs, so I will bring the dust bag so my k32 can rest comfortably on the floor, or seat next to me, but i haven't bought a bag to store the bag.

The bins and conveyor belts for the xray machine are very dirty. So are the airplane floors. I'm a bit of a germaphobe in general, so I like having my bags protected. I used to use an envirosax for both my K32 and B35. Now I use an enV bag which is similar. I prefer the enV bag because it has a bit more room for my B35.

At the hotel, when I leave behind one of my bags, I usually lock them up in my suitcase. I don't leave anything out.

This is a link to the enV bag. Looks like stock is limited. IIRC, they cost less than the envirosax:

Since I restrict myself to carry-on luggage, I usually only take one H bag with me. It goes into my tote 99% of the time and stays there until I get to my destination. I don't see the need to carry a handbag through the airport and onto the plane. On the rare occasion when I recently made a brief trip without the tote, I put my Kelly into an Envirosac. It was perfect! It went into the airport bin and I left it in the sac until I reached my hotel. I don't like the idea of putting any bag into the airport bin as I wonder about what is lurking in the x-ray machine. Maybe the scratch and scuff bunnies live in there? I also don't want to put it on the airplane floor unprotected. These sacs are so easy to use and fold so well, I usually keep one in my bag all the time anyway and hey are also washable which is nice.

I'm with you GraceKelly....one H bag and a Longchamp has taken me many, many places without issue.

If I'm heading to a city vacation then I'll take a kelly with both the strap it comes with and a canvas strap...this bag sees me through most daily events...from shopping, sightseeing to dinning out.

If I'm headed to a more rural spot then it'll be my Massai Cut because it's just so comfy for a daily "sling it on and go" bag

It's amazing how my 35 Bleu de Malte Birkin in Clemence has become the perfect travel bag. I can stuff anything in there: laptop, books, vanity, shawls, chargers... It's like the Mary Poppins carpet bag. I place it on top of my cabin case, with the handles threaded through for safety and I'm ready to go. Perfection. Please note that I find worn, yet well cared for Birkins are the most beautiful of all. These bags are made to be used and there's something stunning about burnished, patina-ed leather...

:smile1: I always put my "good" bags into one of my Longchamp carry-on bags when traveling.

I don't like the thought of them sitting on the airplane floor and somebody accidentally spilling food or drink and my lovely bags get spoiled. Additionally I keep my H- or LV bag in their sleeper bags, so that they won't get scratched from other things in my carry-on. :smile1:

I completely agree with you, TrueLoVe! I am a fanatic about keeping things clean- not a fun thought of your bag getting dirty from the airport floor, rubber conveyor belt, and the like.
