Do you travel with your H bag?

Interesting because I have only ever stored passports, important documents and jewelry in hotel safety boxes.

If I'm traveling with an Hermes bag that I won't be using that day, I just pack it in the largest piece of luggage I've brought for that trip and lock that piece of luggage. As a habit, I always just lock all my luggage before leaving the hotel room anyway. Surely that is secure enough?

^ I'm with you Leah. I travel with my Bs and Ks all the time and when I have to leave one in my hotel I just put it in my suitcase. In fact I don't even lock up my suitcase. Having said that I'm pretty picky where I stay - the Peninsula, the Mandarin Oriental or the Four Seasons - where I know customer service and security are the first priorities. And I learnt after the whole Dominique Strauss-Kahn debacle in New York that hotels know through the card readers who has come into your room and at what time. So I feel pretty confident in leaving my H bags hidden in my suitcase. Ultimately everyone has different standards and you just have to go with whatever standard suits you.

^ MrsJDS, I imagine stealing a big Hermes bag from a hotel room is really difficult to pull off (although am sure with enough creativity, it could in theory happen....)

And yes for sure more reputable hotels have much tighter security these days and I think it's still the usual items like jewelry, watches, wallets, cash that are at greater risk of being taken.

Reminds me of the incident a few years back when Anne Bass (the wealthy socialite) sued a prestigious hotel in Asia when she reportedly lost a giant diamond ring (JAR Paris, no less!) and alleged that this was taken by hotel staff WHILE she was inside the hotel suite having a massage (if I recall.) Scary stuff. And she lost that lawsuit, btw.

We definitely all have our standards...I don't worry about my H bags being stolen from a hotel room as unless a thief is specifically tracking me, money, jewelry, and something obvious like Chanel seems way more likely to be stolen (I hide the small flaps I sometimes take on trips). I do put my passport in a safe as losing that will not wait for insurance to kick in!
I do have a friend who keeps a "nanny cam" in her hotel rooms (in a cosmetics case) and I kind of like this :p

constance and lindy I feel like are quite under the radar for those not following H, and they are much smaller compared to b/k. so i havent had much trouble traveling with them..

its usually b35 that really needs special accommodation. then again, that is a special gift from DH

I also travel with my B. In the past I was afraid to use it on trips, but at the same time felt that I did not enjoy this beautiful bag to its full potential, and also missed the extra space and got annoyed with other bags because I was not used to them. I used a Longchamp pliage to protect the B at the airport and the airplane. My 35 can also get heavy, but I really like bringing it with me.
I even brought my B on a beach holiday, and used my LC to hide my B from the sun and in order to avoid touching the handles with some sun lotion on my hands. I also paid extra attention to avoid sand in contact with the bag. A B is definitely great everywhere and at any time IMO :)

Planning on taking my k to a conference in 2 weeks. It's a 32 so I can have it with me at all times and not worry about leaving it in a hotel room. I travelled with her a couple weeks ago ( only what I needed for the flight as I also had a carry on) Took an old dust bag to put it in under the seat.

Yes and you're right to bring your K with you!
To me, those H bags are definitely made to be enjoyed and to be used. I feel that my B compliments my look, be it at the airport or when sightseeing, and a B looks definitely great when you go to your dinner, even if you're exhausted. When I do not bring my B with me, I feel that something lacks (especially if I substitute my B with a bag that I like less, only to avoid bringing the B with me!).

I would love taking my Hermes while travelling. I took my Evelyne to Asia last couple years ago and she stayed in my suitcase the whole trip. The places I visited in Asia are crowded, hot and humid, dusty and I would feel nervous if anyone would bump into my Evelyne. However, during trips within the US, I took my Hermes purses with me, unless it is a trip at Disneys land or Sea World. Hermes purses and water don't mix, mind you. :smile1: Btw, I don't even take my Hermes Kelly to some small or crowded restuarants because I'm too nervouse if anyone would bump into or spill some food on my beloved Kelly. I'm not really paranoid since it happened to me years ago when a waitress spilled Chicken curry on my newly acquired purse. Thank goodness, it was a coach purse not Hermes. I learned since I was a teen that we should appreciate and be grateful with all our belongings by taking a good care of them.

About the safe, I love not having to even think about my stuff..Usually any safe will fit a Birkin 25, PLUS a few shawls, watch, jewelry, passport, wallet, bracelets, camera…Of course I'm 99.999999% sure that my stuff wouldn't be stolen since I am also super picky about my hotels, but it gives me such peace of mind to come and go as I please and have staff come in and out as needed. Honestly I think Birkin 25 (in addition to a Goyard or some other tote) is just the perfect travel bag for this reason and also because you can fit the birkin inside the B25 box as your roll-on! Totally worry free!

Here's a recent article on the matter:

If you’ve been on Instagram this past week, you noticed that handbag blogger ******** had a strong presence by sharing original Hermes photos and introducing engaging hashtags to celebrate #pursebopshermesweek. This celebration also included the debut of her first Kelly bag and a continuation of our conversation on her blog. This week, our dialog expanded into travel and what you need to know when bringing along your Hermes leather goods. I hope you find these simple pointers helpful too.

******** | My lifestyle involves a great deal of travel, and I strongly believe in enjoying my special pieces while doing so. Although my collection is just starting out I would like any travel tips, or advice you can share. I find myself using my Birkin for more relaxing vacation style trips but my Kelly for work related trips. Any advice on how to enjoy these treasures while on the go? Airport, security, rain, snow, safety etc?

I’m so happy to hear that you are using your Hermes bags for travel! Some women are absolutely terrified of doing this for fear that they may damage their bag. Hermes handbags are made to be enjoyed and are very durable. However, a few simple pointers will be helpful to maintain their beauty on the go.

Never over stuff or place heavy items in your bag.

Always keep your purse’s raincoat inside of your bag for an unexpected rain shower or snowstorm.

Insure your handbags. Contact a Chubb agent for additional information and pricing.

Travel with your Hermes canvas duster. Place your bag inside of this while entering the TSA security zone and place on the conveyer belt fully covered inside a plastic bin. Remove the duster when you are cleared. Once you board the plane, place it again inside the duster and gently underneath your seat for takeoff and landing. If you don’t want to dirty or damage your pretty Hermes duster, choose one from another brand.

Use a purse organizer like a Fourbi. This will prevent accidental spills of food, makeup and ink from damaging the interior leather.

If you are traveling to a warm climate make sure to avoid direct sunlight and tanning lotion/oils from getting onto the leather.

Lock your bag carefully inside of your suitcase when it is not in use.

If anything should happen unexpectedly, call the nearest Hermes boutique and ask to speak with a craftsperson. If you are traveling within the United States and live in the United States, you may be able to drop it off and have it shipped to your home.

******** | I have recently purchased several exotic Hermes leather jewelry pieces and intend on taking them along during travel. It’s definitely safer then taking very expensive designer diamond bangles and other rare pieces. Anything I should be aware of here?

The most important thing to remember when traveling with exotic skins internationally is to carry your CITIES certificate. A CITIES, Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, is an international agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in species of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. A customs officer may ask for this document. If you are not able to provide it, your item may be taken from you.

******** | I often read comments on IG where people mention that they leave the stickers on their hardware whether it’s bag hardware or CDC or KD’s. If my intention is not resale, is there any other benefit to not removing these stickers?

When you purchase a handbag at Hermes, the hardware is prepared with a thin plastic sticker and its intention is to protect it from the damage that can occur during shipping. Keeping your stickers attached is a personal choice. I think for some, it’s a part of the “admiration stage”. Keeping on the stickers may protect your handbag hardware longer but it will eventually peel off on it own.

Hi Everyone,
Sorry if this has been discussed here, please feel free to move. My current carry on doesn't completely fit my Birkin and most of the carry ons I have seen doesn't fit my B. I don't want to use my B on the plane and I don't put anything too valuable in my checked luggage. Do you guys have any suggestions for a good carry-on that fits?
