Do you tell people you bought an item pre-loved?

I am very happy to tell anyone who wants to know, that I buy second hand. I don't use the term pre loved, which I consider a bit of a marketing term. I have vintage bags, which are true vintage, but I have also bought just 'old' - the quality was nice and why not after all? In the uk I think there has always been a keen interest in recycling, shopping from second hand and charity shops. Practically every one I know buys second hand.

Are you ashamed of buying pre-loved? Or buying something that was used by someone else?!

I am definitely not ashamed to buy pre-loved, in fact I prefer to buy used or vintage bags. I think the pre-loved items have an interesting story to tell and also, they make an unique collection for you.

Nothing is more boring than buy a new bag and when you hit the streets, every other girl has the same bag.

So ignore the evil stuff your cousins might say and carry your pre-loved with proud!

If people don't ask I will say nothing, if people ask I will tell them the truth.

Happiness is not about how much you have, but how little you need.

Love that!

So long as you love everything about the bag and you're not buying it because it's cheaper, most people will just think you're clever for bagging a bargain.

Most people I know don't ask. The only person who does is my mom, lol

I have a mix of new and preloved but most of my newer purses are in the "new to me" category, especially as my tastes have evolved to owning fewer/high quality items. Many of my friends are also green fashionistas who love to scout vintage and consignment shops

It makes me feel good to find a bargain on something beautiful & to reduce my carbon impact on industrial pollution by selecting something that already exists in the world :)

For my 21st birthday, I want to purchase my first designer bag to celebrate my adulthood and to create my addiction for bags lol. The three bags I'm drooling over are pre-loved which doesn't bother me. I'm getting a great discount which is something I love getting when buying clothes and accessories.

I love buying pre-loved items and not only bags but shoes as well. I am in financial situation where I can't pay 900$ for a pair of pumps, but 250$ for the same pair without a box? Works for me. I don't have problem admitting it but I must say it stroke back at me couple of times:

* Once a girl who I am moderately friendly with made a compliment about my shoes and asked about the price, and I told her that original is around 500€ but I paid less since I bought them pre-loved from eBay. She literally changed her face and said "Oh my, now thats disgusting!"

* My friend's husband asked her to avoid physical contact with me since he was paranoid I might get germs from used items!!! (she told him she was going to bid on a preloved bag and used me as an example, then it escalated..)
I am not even sure what was more offending, the statement itself or the fact that she told me that as a brilliant joke.

Good for you girl! I have the same idea, though I wonder if it's a cultural thing. In London for example most people I know buy second hand without giving it a thought. But I have friends from other countries, who find the idea 'disgusting' . Very strange! I would not buy second hand shoes personally, but bags or any clothes that are washable why not? ( or coats even) someone was telling me about two wealthy ladies from Australia visited London & Scotland for a few months. Rather than buying heavy coats new, they bought vintage, used them during their study and then donated to charity. Win win.
