Do You Still Carry Your LV... When Your Friend Has a Fake?

Now we've all talked about how awkward it can be when someone asks you if you're bag is real, how much your bag costs and whatever.

My question for you all now is, do you have any friends that have fake bags and if so, how do you feel when they are carrying their fake bag while you're carrying your real one?

My best friend loves fashion... I mean that's pretty much all we talk about (and boys of course :roflmfao:) but he doesn't own many authentic pieces. I am not judging him, to each his own of course... but I can't help but feel awkward around him when he's carrying his fake pieces. Me personally, I could NEVER own a fake. I would rather have a nothing than a fake something.

I just don't know what to do. I hate feeling like people may think what I have is fake too and I don't know what to do about it. He would rather spend $500 on a few fakes, then get a real LV. Should I just continue to carry my bags with pride? I know a lot of you are probably like "who cares if others think your bag is fake or not." I care... I care because I know my LVs are real. When I am not with him, I feel so much better and I feel like I am able to carry my LVs.

Do any of you have similar situations/input?

I can totally relate and I wanted to post a similar thread. About a month ago I had dinner with one of my best friends and she was carrying an atrocious Bal City knockoff. Now, unlike your friend, my girlfriend knows very little about designer labels, so there's no way she even knew, but I literally would have felt horribley if I had my Bal City with me that night, too! Thank goodness I had my go-to Ebene Speedy. I feel like I was lucky to avoid a potentially awkward situation.

I think you should continue wearing your real purses and support your bestfriend, maybe even tell him about some consignment websites were he would be able to purchase that same expensive bag for less.

Try to go around the situation, you know he has a fake bag, if you feel uncomfortable maybe you could offer him to borrow one of your bags, that way you know its the real deal and there would be less tension.

I feel the same way you do I will never ever support fake bags and I do feel uncomfortable to wear certain things around different people, because they might think my items are fake, but me and my bestfriend never have this problem, because most people consider me a diva or above average.

Oh wow... I am glad you carried your LV so you wouldn't have to feel that awkward!

What's funny about Balenciaga... is that my same friend bought a fake Balenciaga Weekender in NYC. We went to the casino one night and when he went to go do something with the bag, the strap broke off. I couldn't help but burst out laughing. "It's not funny," he said... "The hell it's not," I said. I couldn't help but laugh.

What's funny though hon, is that my friend is very educated about all of the places he can buy authentic items at. We always talk about it and I am always very quick to show him the latest and greatest from LV. He just doesn't want to buy a real one. I don't understand the mentality at all.

hmm... i think i can kind of relate to your friend. i wanted to buy fakes until i realized that i can buy the real thing pre-owned. I think it may take a person actually owning the authentic item to realize that fakes are a no-no.
but i would definitely still wear your bag around him. just because he has a fake doesn't mean you're guilty by association, you know? and anyone who thinks that way is pretty ignorant. and who knows, the more he sees your real stuff, the more encouraged he will be to stop buying fakes and get the real deal.

The only other thing I can really say is continue to wear your real purses & maybe your friend cant bring himself to spend that type of money on a real purse

I doubt you'll ever be able to change his mind, if that's the way he thinks, but I can totally understand why you'd worry about carrying your LV while with him. On a slightly lesser scale I actually had the same situation a couple of months back when I went out for dinner with a work colleague. She had a knock off LV long wallet, and I was using my own authentic LV wallet. I felt a bit awkward and though ultimately I don't care what people think, I wouldn't want it to look like I was using counterfeit products.

Said friend has countless fake goods from Indonesia and thinks I'm mad for buying real LV, by the way!

Maybe your friend can't bring himself to spend that type of money, but then again the amount of the fakes most of the time equal up to the same amount of a real bag

I hope so. I got into LV in 2007 and have been carrying my bags ever since, so hopefully he will continue to see the real LV glow and buy one one of these days.

He spends THOUSANDS on fakes... he can afford to spend the money on a real one. I think his problem is... he doesn't want to have only one real bag, he wants to have a ton... so he continues to buy fakes because they are cheaper. It's sad IMO. After seeing the way fakes look on the street, I am glad I have my real babies at home.

I think having fake accessories is the worst! It's one thing to have a fake bag, we all see them... but to have the accessories that much, OH gosh haha.

Don't you hate that when people think you're crazy because you're spending your money on a real item? I hate it because the same people carry fakes pretending that they are real. That is such a waste of time. There are so many no-label products that look great that I would rather have if I couldn't afford to buy a real bag.

I wouldn't feel awkward, it's their choice. Sounds like your friend knows about the fake vs. real and chooses to carry the fakes. If you two ever get into a conversation about it, maybe your friend will realize how he can get a used LV for a good price and one by one replace the fakes with real.

Whatever bag my friends carry is their business, not mine. Vice versa. If someone asks about my bags, I direct them to LV's website. I don't feel the need to get into some kind of pi$$ing contest with someone about the costs of purses. The only person I have to "deal with" is my hubby and he tells me that as long as our household bills do not suffer, he really doesn't care. I've had the LV obsession longer than I've had him, so when he married me, for better or worse, he inherited the LV obsession, too. Actually, he's OK with it because the luggage I bought back 18 to 20 years ago, we're still using and is still in great condition. He looks at them as investments, as well. I digress.....

i dont have any friends who have fake bags. fakes are made with so many human rights abuses, that i could never have i have friend who was ok with supporting that kind of thing. for me it would be reason enough to stop being friends with someone. but thats me,

edit: i just read the other posts in this thread and its funny how the cost of the thing didnt really enter from me. i just since i am less well off than most of my friends, i assumed that money would not be any issue. but if it were i would still stand by my ultimate choice for the same reason but i would first try to talk them into other less expensive but still amazing brands and makers who are just less well known.
