Do you sleep with your earings on?

I sleep on my side, and when I wore normal pierced jewelry I found it extremely uncomfortable. About 5 years ago I started stretching my ears, and I now wear simple plugs (either hollow stainless steel or solid glass) that are 8ga (3.2 mm in diameter). They are rounded on the ends and secure with o-rings, so no sharp edges means that I sleep comfortably at night.

Thank you. This style is typical of the Victorian to Art Deco periods. They come in different designs. The top is a hook and where the diamond hangs is the back hook to close with the top so the earrings don't fall out. I was told that they are really meant to sleep with, hence the French name "dormeuse."

The traditional design with a hanging diamond (like mine) is quite rare especially in pink gold, in excellent condition and good-quality diamonds. I searched many antique jewelry shops in Europe until I found an excellent quality in pink gold. This is because the ones in pink gold are typically older in age, hence rarer. Depending also on the condition, the price differs.

Those earrings are beautiful!

That type of hook and closure is called Leverback here. I have a couple dozen in silver in my stash of jewelry findings.. But how yours were done is just WOWOW!!

Leverbacks are very comfy to sleep in, I've done it.

If your ears have healed (6 months or more) they are Not going to close up overnight. In fact, they won't close up even if you leave earrings our for weeks or months. The hole will be there forever. Now you might get a little layer of new skin over the site, but you can go straight through that with your post if necessary. I have a second hole in my ears that I never use, it has been there over 10 years, and I can still put an earring in if I wanted to.

I never wear earrings while I sleep. When I was much younger, I fell asleep with a pair of stud earrings in. In the morning, one of the studs (the decorative stone) had worked its way into the hole. It was a bloody mess(literally) to work the stud back out. Luckily it was a very tiny stud. Still, I would leave the earrings out while you sleep, once you have healed.

I always wear my earrings to sleep. But NOT studs. When I first got my ears pierced it was at a tattoo/body piercing parlor, and the earring that they used there was this.. ring type of earring (I TOTALLY forgot what the "official" name for it is... sorry! but it's like.. this ring earring with a little ball :s sorry for the extremely bad description)
It doesn't bother me at all when I go to sleep with it on!

I keep my diamond studs on all the time cos I'm too lazy to take 'em off. :shame: My studs don't bother me when I sleep, but I def take off my hoops on the rare occasions I wear 'em out.
