I have solitare diamond earrings with screwbacks and I take them out at night...I sleep on my side and they jab into my head! lol! But I do have small hoops with diamonds and they don't bother me at all when I sleep in them.

Mine are 2 ctw diamond studs with screw backs and the posts also go into my head when I when I sleep on my side. It might depends on the particular earrings and each person's ears too. My ear lobes are very small and close to my head so that might make a difference. But, when I was very young I always slept with my tiny studs on and they didnt bother me at all....I also sleep with my Rolex a lot and it doesnt bother me at all, while some people find it uncomfortable...

I do sleep with my earrings on. Either with my diamond studs or normally my antique "dormeuse" earrings. They are from 1895 and are actually supposed to be also worn while sleeping (as the name applies in French "dormeuse"). I barely notice them even when sleeping since they are lever back earrings. My diamond studs sometimes I feel because of the screw back/clutches closure.

Here's a pic of my antique earrings:

I take my earrings out each night, I find them so uncomfortable to sleep in.
I haven't worn earrings to bed since I was 4 (and that was only because my Mum made me because my piercing was new).

My friends take their regular earrings out at night and wear sleepers instead, I tried this and it definitely was more comfortable than regular earrings.

Your earrings are lovely. Can you tell me something more about this style?

I do. I didn't before but I was always in such a hurry to get to school, I'd forget, so now I do. I just wear my diamond studs in both holes in both ears so they don't bother me; I just clean them pretty often.

i do, but only because if i took them out i'd lose them (well, that and shear laziness). i have a second and third set of holes that i haven't worn earrings in for the past 7 years.....but as of a month ago i still *could* if i wanted to. if they've been pierced for more than six months i wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you. This style is typical of the Victorian to Art Deco periods. They come in different designs. The top is a hook and where the diamond hangs is the back hook to close with the top so the earrings don't fall out. I was told that they are really meant to sleep with, hence the French name "dormeuse."

The traditional design with a hanging diamond (like mine) is quite rare especially in pink gold, in excellent condition and good-quality diamonds. I searched many antique jewelry shops in Europe until I found an excellent quality in pink gold. This is because the ones in pink gold are typically older in age, hence rarer. Depending also on the condition, the price differs.

I hardly ever used to wear earrings but my DH bought me the most gorgeous pair of diamond studs as a gift on our wedding day in September. I've only taken them out once since (except for cleaning them) and that was when we went swimming with dolphins  I don't notice them at all when I'm in bed and I always sleep on my side

I sleep in all my jewelry. Mostly because I'm lazy....I'll admit it! I have 2 sets of studs and a set of hoops. I always slept in my thin hoops, but I just bought larger, heavier diamond hoops and I take them out, I do leave the other 2 sets in.
