Do you prefer jewelry that is trendy or classic? Do you prefer understated or flashy pieces? How does this match up with your taste in clothes and bags (i.e. are you classic all the way, trendy clothes but classic otherwise, etc.)?

I'm curious to see everyone's responses.

I prefer classic, understated pieces. It's pretty similar to my wardrobe and bags. Lots of black, brown, gray basics, with pops of color here or there. I don't really like oversized things on me - clothing, bags or jewels. Even when I wear a long necklace, it's typically small or thin in size.

I like classic and vintage-looking things, but not necesarily small or understated. I like larger, semi-precious stones; unusual pendants; sizeable jewelry. I am not a very large person, yet small and delicate pieces do not compliment me at all. My wardrobe tends to be plain and pretty monochromatic, so I accent a lot with jewelry and bags.

I have a few trendy things, but if I'm going to spend serious money, it's going to on something I can wear forever, not just for a season. Any trendy stuff I have is pretty inexpensive.

When I was younger I went more for trendy things, but they were always inexpensive. I would never spend a lot of money on a trendy item as it would spend many years collecting dust in a drawer. Now I go for more understated items, don't feel like my jewelry should be the first or second thing someone sees about me.

I have a bix of a mix of vintage antique pieces and classics. Most pieces I own are understated . I tend to stay with peices that stand the test of time and The few trendy pieces that I do own, are in expensive.

I am classic & feminine...in jewelry, clothing, & accessories. I have many vintage/antique pieces of furniture, accessories, & jewelry like keodi. but like HauteMama said, I also have several very large pieces of statement jewelry. I don't think that size determines what is classic or understated.

in general with jewelry, I do not care for a lot of accent diamonds. so even if I have a 30ct gemstone, I don't think it's flashy because it's not surrounded by loads of diamonds. a large gemstone by itself has clean & simple lines...classic.

I tend toward classic & feminine not only because I consider that style to be a better investment that will get more use, but because it's genuinely what I prefer. it suits my personality.

I have always been a classic over trendy person. Classics always remain "in style" and you can easily get one or two "in season" items to pair with the classics and Voilà! you are instantly "in style" for that season.

I will do both classic and trendy, but nothing about me is understated. I like larger, flashier jewelry that stands out. I don't buy things b/c they are in style, I buy it b/c I really, really like it and will wear it for a long time. If you always follow that rule you will never have anything that is out of style b/c it is still part of your own personal style even if the masses are no longer wearing it. I'd say I'm the same way with clothes and purses and accessories also, I want interesting, flashier stuff. I don't buy basics.

Classic with jewellery - this reflects my tastes generally in clothes and bags/shoes etc. Very occasionally I might purchase an inexpensive item that is a bit more 'out there' just for fun (big earrings etc) but my jewellery I wear every day is:

Cartier 2-tone tank francais
white gold fope bracelet
white gold channel-set baguette diamond ring
Cartier baby trinity diamond knot studs

It's pretty understated really.
