Do You Only Carry Leather Bags?

I would carry a canvas bag, especially for the beach or something like that, or at satin bag for evening. I'll never carry a fake leather bag but I would carry a totally different material. The only major difference for me is I won't pay the same amount for a bag that isn't leather, just not worth it imho.

99% of my bags are leather but I do have a Gucci Sukey Boston bag that I bought deliberately for days when I want something lightweight and that I don't have to baby too much - plus who wants to carry around a heavy leather bag in the summer. I wouldn't buy nylon or any other fabrics though but that is just my preference. I also wouldn't generally even buy canvas as good quality bags in canvas aren't cheap (eg LV, Gucci) and I always figure if I'm going to spend that amount of money then I want the best I can for the price.

I feel a bit ashamed about my reply to the no name brand question - tehcnically I like to think I would buy any brand if I like it and the quality seems good but I think I have become spoilt since I started buying designer bags. I would find it difficult to go back to a high street bag now as I think the difference in quality is in most cases quite large. I'm not like this with clothes or shoes though and have a wide range of makes in my wardrobe ranging from M&S (basic solid high street make here in the UK) to MaxMara. I just seem to have morphed into a bag snob!

I love both canvas and leather for different reasons, though the money I'd ultimately spend on canvas is lower as opposed to leather (unless said canvas bag totally wows me). My only nylon bag is my uni etc tote.

Denton, I thought you were a guy. Oh wait, I forgot ... men carry handbags (manbags?) these days too. I am SO behind the times! ;)

As for me, it's leather all the way BUT I made an exception with the Longchamp LM Metal shopping tote, because of the horse motif.

lol, not me girl, but I was speaking as to what I would buy for the wife.

I like both leather and coated canvas (LV). I use different bags at different times. I'm not a fan of fake leather or nylon. I don't care what the brand is or how much it costs. It just feels weird to the touch.

I love the story about the wallet on fire! There are stories in other threads about LV canvas wallets going through the washing machine with no damage, and recently someone lost hers and it was run over by cars before she found it, and was not damaged very much.

Leather doesn't necessarily mean expensive or high quality, I've had lots of cheap leather bags.

Agreed. The leather bags I have now are nice, but I've had some cheapies in the past. I also love my LV canvas bag.

I carry other material like canvas/leather, crochet like from The Sak but not fake leather. I like genuine materials if that makes any sense. To me, it is something about a beautiful bag when you just wear shorts, tee and sandals. A bag seems to just pull it together. Nothing wrong with purchasing from Target. Sometimes, I wish I was not into handbags. How many do I need? Well, at least one in every color.

Hmm, this question just forced me to go do a head count of my bags, loL!

I prefer leather, however, I also own a patent bag, a nylon bag, a PVC bag (from Nordstrom and still can't believe I bought it, but 'tis a cutie pie), a satin bag and a beaded wristlet. Oops, I also have a coated canvas bag. Oh, also forgot my cheap woven straw clutch from Target! Will be used for an upcoming barbecue. The non-leather totes are great for the beach, pool, camping trips and rainy days.

Nothing beats leather for me though! And the smell of good leather makes me smile.

I only have 1 non leather bag. I go by the bag and designer for quality. I am having 3 bags and a wallet made b/c I wanted my own vision for my next bag

I am intrigued by this. Don't mean to hijack this thread (sorry, OP), but can you please share more info on your custom made bags and wallet?

Most of my bags are leather, except for the ones that are for the beach. Those are canvas. I have some cotton fabric ones that I carry when I go on vacation or take a road trip. That way I don't have worry about my kids stepping on it and ruining it.
