Do you match the hardware on your bags and accessories?

I rationalize it this way: I have a yellow gold ring with white diamonds on it. But I have a stainless steel watch. But hey, the face of the watch is white and so are the diamonds. Presto! They match.

I have a gold ring with a brown diamond. I have a stainless steel watch (same watch). It has a brown band. The brown band matches the brown diamond. Presto! They match.

Maybe start looking at the pieces for the colors they contain and not just at the metals--you'll get way more wear out of your pieces if you can find a way to be comfortable mixing metals.

So for example. Navy and orange can work well together. I can see your cute new bag with a French sailor stripe shirt--those ones with the blue stripes. Since that has blue in it, work with that in your jewelry. Do you have yellow gold with sapphire? That would work for earrings with your two tone watch, no problem.

The watch is near your bag, so the white metal on the watch, would match the hardware.

Mostly, just remember that there really isn't a "Fashion Police" that will come bust you for not getting your metals right and use that idea as a lighthearted reminder to try the small risk.

Just try it. You will not meet any harm in mixing metals, just keep the tone the same.

Tone meaning, no super thin gold bracelet with big chunky silver bracelet at the same time...but chunky silver bracelet and chunky gold bracelet, why not?

Thanks for the very helpful reply!

I can so totally relate. Because of this, I have bags in the same color but with different color hardware. :shame: When I don't wear my contacts, even the hardware color of my glasses bother me.
What's worse, I want matching shoes.

Lol! Your post made my day! Im not alone!!!

Well, OP, we can do lots of things, but when you start out admitting you have a severe obsession, there's not a thing we can do about that.

BUT - I will say that since you know yourself best, why don't you just go with the flow, admit your problems with mixed metals, and just ... stick to what makes YOU comfortable? Where's the problem there?

That is a very good point and I always say that to my self, i need to be comfortable and that is what matters! Don't know why i pressure my self sometimes to do otherwise..

For me if the HW on the bag is prominent and the jewelry is large, I won't mix. For example, I have some large silver jewelry (bracelets, earrings). I prefer to wear a bag with silver HW if I'm wearing that jewelry. I wouldn't wear a Marc Jacobs bag with gold pushlocks. But I might wear a Rebecca Minkoff bag with minimal HW that's gold toned or brass (not as prominent).

I think silver HW in general is quieter than gold and I prefer it for that reason. I think you can wear a bag with silver HW with gold jewelry more easily than the other way around.
But the HW on your Bal bag is a bit more prominent. I would still wear it with a gold ring or smaller gold earrings but maybe not with big gold jewelry.
My watch is stainless with a salmon dial and I wear it with everything.
I guess it just comes down to what you're comfortable with.

I agree with you.. I am glad i'm not the one who thinks this way!

glad to find someone of like mind
bottom line for me - I don't want to switch bags daily but if I find myself wearing something that clashes, color-wise or maybe HW-wise, I'll change bags. Other than that, I usually switch when I get tired of carrying one - maybe once a week more or less

Sorry to highjack the thread but I have one more thing to add. I have a RM bag that's salmon colored with silver HW - similar colors to your Bal bag but smaller HW. I'd carry that with gold jewelry. And I find the bag goes with most of my summer clothes.

My watch and wedding ring are gold so anytime I wear silver jewelry I am mixing and matching. That said, I usually try to match my jewelry to the hardware on my bag. What is more important to me, though, is that my jewelry has the same vibe as my bag. If my bag is really elegant, I want my jewelry to be; if my bag is sporty, so is my jewelry, etc.
