Do you/Have you/Would you buy H on Ebay?

I love to trawl ebay for discontinued leathers like courchevel. I love that leather. I have bought a couple of kellys and 3 birkins from ebay. So far I have been lucky in that my purchases went very well. I didn't pay over retail for any of them cos they are mostly second hand. I have also bought vintage hermes bags which I wouldn't be able to get anywhere else anyway. All in all, ebay has been kind to me. Plus it lets me see the colors on different leathers and that helps me to decide exactly what I am looking for. But of course, my ultimate resource is still tpf.

I'm looking to make my first H bag purchase so I comb Ebay regularly for a good deal on a used or vintage Kelly. There's no way I would buy from Ebay without the advice from the experts here though. I would also only buy from trusted sellers. It's too risky otherwise!

So far I have only bought twillys & cadenas on ebay. I tried to buy a kelly once, actually won the bid, but I was sent an email from a fraudster asking for some transaction number. I wrote to Ebay & also the auction house, the auction house was kind enough to call off the transaction. Recently, I had a bad experience with an off-ebay reseller. From now on, I will only buy from recommended resellers/tpf members on ebay.

I am hesitant to buy on ebay and agree that I'll wait before I pay the extra $$$$$$$...I really love getting new items so that deters me too....maybe one day I'll 'break down', but for now, I'll purchase items from an Hermes store..

I had a great experience on ebay. i bought a 30 vache grain lisse in grey, mint, under retail ( 1500 E) and of course, 100 % authentic. it was a lady, not a store, and she gave me plenty of information, but i decided after consulting the "authenticate this hermes" threat. i thank a lot all the help from the members.
the day that i received the bag i went to hermes to check the authenticity, and i was lucky to find a 35 gold togo, that i bought that same day!
i recomend ebay, but only if it is dheaper than the store... prices are mad from some retailers...

I bought my first ( and only) birkin from a wonderful reputable seller on ebay. I do not live close enough to Hermes to visit frequently and develop the relationship necessary to acquire a birkin from the store. I have since grown to love so many other Hermes items and a variety of their bags. So I have no difficulty finding lovely items to carry home from my travels when visiting boutiques! Meanwhile, I would not hesitate to use ebay for a difficult to find item ( perhaps another birkin) from a reputable seller and have it authenticated.

Under the right circumstances, ebay can be a wonderful avenue to acquire goods that are simply not available otherwise. My scarf collection would be a mere shadow of its current self without ebay....

(yes, that would be a BAD thing)....

I think is not a bad idea find rare things and not wait years for....I bought few bags from very good resellers......and of course in the main time I'm waiting for my special order fom Hermes-PARIS - MILAN -LONDON

I think if you do your proper diligence, eBay is great. It sounds like you are aware of all the issues and how best to use this forum's resources. :-)

I'm always shocked to see posts by women who are surprised to find that the $50 "birkin" they bought online is not a real Birkin. Duh!

With the markups being the way they are on Ebay, I don't go there anymore unless it's for something I can't get at the store b/c it's from years ago, like a cadena. There are lots of other places you can get preloved Hermes at a good price if you look. But, the recommended sellers list is a good guide and thank god for the authenticate this thread! very good tools.

I think this is a big issue. The SF store never has the basic 35 birkins that I want. I have bought 10 ties, a wallet, an agenda, the cheap pic book, and plates from SF - so the relationship isn't really helping. I guess they go to more serious buyers or they really just dont get them. Houston is much more open and helpful. I check Hermes stores all around the world - My husband is an Aussie and we are in Hong Kong/Singapore/Australia yearly - as well as NY. Its really frustrating.

Thus, I have two birkins from Ebay. One over market and one a great deal (pre owned) Both were good experiences, but with well validated sellers, and with the first one I was very worried even though it came in 36 hours! I think if you want something specific, a well validated e bay seller is the best way to go. Otherwise you just get old and frustrated waiting.

As business issue it is a wonder that any business would create such a market for good fakes and doubled resale values. I feel like the EBay resellers are the only ones the stores are really accommodating and then they are doubling the mark up.
