I always dress nicely when leaving the home, be it grocery shopping or going to LV. I am a put together type of person.

If someone prefers very casual, they should get good service too at all stores.

So I would say I'm a yes to the question.

I agree!

I love to do my hair and make up if I go any where. It takes me only a few minutes and I feel good about myself. I don't do it for anyone else, only myself. I am usually dressed in jeans, top, cardigan or a casual blazer when shopping. When I am in a high end store there is a mix of smart and very casually dressed people. They all seem to get the same service.

Nope. I usually dress like a slob. I only shop at boutiques where they treat me well even when I look like a slob: Hermes, Bottega Veneta, Marni, Prada are my go-to places, select departments at Barneys and Bergdorf as well.

This came up in similar threads when I was reading something more current, and I always find it a really interesting conversation. Apologies if I'm not responding to the most recent conversation on this, since thread topics tend to repeat themselves over time.

I believe that I should get top-of-the-line service from a top-of-the-line store no matter what I am wearing. However, in reality, that is not the case. I find I have a hard time getting waited on in many stores, so I prefer to take a little extra effort with my appearance to save the time I'd otherwise spend trying to get served and avoid feeling crappy because of snooty salespeople.

If I am shopping for clothing, I do tend to wear nice clothes but wear my usual hair and makeup to make sure clothes will look good on me the way I generally intend to wear them. If I am shopping for handbags, I like to get dressed up to see how much more the purse can add to my outfit, since a nice purse cannot save a bad outfit. In fact, if there's a particular bag I have my eye on, I'll wear an outfit I think I'd wear with that bag to see if it's as good a match for me as I think. So there is some practical consideration there, too.

I will wear my usual casual outfit to the boutiques and will only buy bags that look good with my outfit. This ensures that I will not buy anything that will eventually end up collecting dust in my closet.

I do because it makes it more fun. But if I'm just at the mall and pop in L.V. or whatever they get what they get. I've never had a problem getting waited on but it's LA so they get all types coming in.

I don't get dressed up, but I don't look like a slob either. I would feel foolish. I'm usually in jeans, t-shirt, and Chuck Taylors. I need to be comfortable while shopping. It doesn't matter. With me, I usually get no help unless I ask, or I get followed around the store. I was followed around Anthropologie yesterday in a similar outfit and just left. I don't like to feel uncomfortable while I'm shopping.
