Do you dress up when going into boutiques/Saks/NM?

i just make sure i look neat and decent but i don't get all "gussied-up" for the sales people at the higher-end boutiques and dept stores.

if they wanna help me, wonderful; if they don't b/c i don't measure up their "standards", then i'll just spend my C-notes elsewhere

Well, I never wear anything but jeans on the weekend - but I just might wear my Jil Sander long jacket / spring outerwear type rather than just a sweater if I'm going to Neimans. They DEFINATELY treat you according to your 'upscaleness'. The definition changes though...if you're a size 2 with amazing hair you can pretty much get away wearing anything and still get great service. Ditto if you're toting a 3 carat diamond ring. But me, I'm average sized, average haired and averaged ringed - so I need a little wardrobe boost if I'm going to get great service. ;)

Now I USED to just crawl in there in whatever t shirt /no makeup look I had on, but frankly the experience is so much BETTER if I just give it some effort.

I do and I think it makes me feel better. I'm not sure why. And I also make sure I carry a nice, expensive IT bag. Goodness. I feel so shallow!

Oh yeah, I forgot about the bag. Something obvious helps: LV mono canvas or an MJ Stella. Definately better service...if I use a more obscure Tods or Hogan - the spell sometimes isn't cast.

You know, I'm not sure it's 'shallow'. I'm doing it to get better service for ME. It's still all about me, girlfriends.

nope, i wear my hs/university sweat pants and my usual fitted tee and a demin jacket. if their stupid enough not to help me, then its their lose because they lost a sale. usually then i can find the good SA. or in the summer ill just wear my tommy cargoes or my usual shorts and flip flops, and whatever top i feel like wearing. i dont dress indecently, im covered up, just not dressed up.

I went to Saks one Saturday after finishing work at the hospital. I was in scrubs and a sweetshirt. Saks is 5 minutes away from my hospital so, it wasn't worth it to change. I was shopping for a dress to wear for my sister's wedding and I was REALLY pressed on time. So, scrubs and all, I ended up buying a $500 dress.
Like everyone one said; I don't care, judge me all you want...but I am the one with the green notes in my pocket.
