Do you carry your bag on the left or right side?

Which side do you prefer most?

  • Left

  • Right

  • Either side don't matter. I'm comfortable and switch between both.

  • It depends on where I wear it, like my arm, shoulder, hand, etc. Combo of both.

Right-handed, left shoulder/hand, occasionally right hand.

I've worn my purses like a watch (i.e., not on my dominant arm) for so long that it feels weird to try and put the strap around my right shoulder. I remember there was a time when I was like "Is there a correct way I'm supposed to wear this bag?" but eh, whatever i comfortable. If wearing it on the left side wasn't comfortable before, it is now.

It may also be a cultural thing. I don't know what affects it but it has been studies in Finland and they came to an conclusion that a vast majority of Finnish women carry their bags on their left shoulder.

I seem to be an exception since I almost always carry my bag on my right shoulder (right handed as well). Only if I have a bag I carry on the crook of my arm I may swing it to the left arm.

There are some castles in Europe where these round staircases go down clockwise and some go counterclockwise; as a right hand user you are supposed to carry your weapon in your right hand, the shield in your left. That means that you need more space on the side where your shield is in order to protect yourself. So staircases that make left turns are made for left hand users, the staircases turning to the right for right hand users. Studies confirmed that the "left handed" staircases were built by people who used their left hands as their favourite hands. (There are fewer staircases, most were built the other way round, because most people were right handed).

Wow, thank you for your knowledge. This certainly is an interesting tidbit to know! Handbag=shield, so this is why I feel vulnerable without it ;)

Love these threads! Right handed; prefer carrying hand, shoulder, clutch or cross body on the left but can and do carry on the right hand side as well. I couldn't do it back when carrying school books or babies though.

I'm right handed and usually have it on my left shoulder, but it really depends on the design of the bag; I usually have the zipper (if the bag has one) facing forward when closed with the logo or design facing outward (of course).
