Do you carry two bags to work? Purse and tote, etc?

I carry my purse for my $, my phone, and my beauty stuff. My iPad, notebooks, files, and stuff go in a striped Hampton tote, and my lunch goes in an insulated lunch tote. It often ends up inside the hampton. My gym clothes go in a cheap reusable shopping bag and stay in the car till I go to the gym. On days when the laptop needs to come home, I put it in a great red leather tote I got years ago. Some days I am the real bag lady...but mostly it's just a purse and the Hampton.

THANK YOU all for the feedback! You have freed me from thinking I need to find a bag to do it all. I agree, I like to keep my handbag separate from my work (or other outing) things a lot of times. I don't like to have my 32oz Nalgene water bottle in my handbag because I have had it leak before, and besides it's big and heavy!! I like to be able to carry extra things on any given day without worrying about overloading my purse. I have a Leah tote that I bought at the outlet a couple years ago and that has been my go-to tote bag. It's definitely big enough that I could throw my wallet and things in there, but I don't like to have to inventory what I have and don't have. My handbag/purse has what I need ALL the time, my tote has what I need for the day. I guess, I was just wondering if I was crazy not being able to find that perfect carryall bag to hold everything. I like bringing my favorite handbag with me every day. It sits on my desk for me to admire. :)

You sound like a perfectly sane bag lady to me.

I have a Tumi shoulder tote for my laptop/files/notebooks and anything I might need from work. I work from home at least 1 day per week so I always bring my laptop home. Then I have my purse that holds wallet, phone, cosmetic case etc. Water bottle and lunch can fit in the Tumi tote. I don't have a long walk from car to office so I have tried the one big bag approach (Rory) but I hated taking out my computer if I went straight to a kid activity from work. Now I can just grab my purse and go. Weekends I use my Kate Spade diaper bag for kids stuff and just throw my wallet/phone and cosmetic bag in there with diapers, wipes, bottles and snacks.

Work: Tumi tote plus Crimson Madison Tote as purse

Weekends: Madison Tote or Kate Spade diaper bag

This thread is all the more relevant to me today because I had a four-bag day - it was not pretty by the time I finally left for the parking lot at work! Gym bag, crossbody purse, work bag with computer and files, and dragging my lunch bag in the other hand. And I got stuck in the back of the elevator. There has to be a better way, so I am going to re-read this thread!

since my bag I take to work can get heavy, I carry a nice LARGE lightweight LeSportsac Tote which zips securely closed, which is very needed so that my Coach bag inside, along with my other electronics stay safe from all the hair clippings, etc that surrounds me being a barber.

I carry my purse, and a Coach Gallery tote for my lunch. It's the perfect size, holds all my lunch things with room for a small umbrella if my bag of the day is too small. I line it with a heavy plastic bag in case of spills, put in a small freezer cooler thingy, zip it up and there you go!
That way I don't feel like I'm insulting the bag of the day by forcing it to go to work alongside a plastic store lunch bag! :)

I used to carry a Longchamp Le Pliage for a work bag and a separate purse (currently pythonkristin elevated sage). I recently decided to retired my Le Pliage after years of dutiful service and buy a black saffiano tote for my work bag. I love the look, but the saffiano tote is probably 3X heavier than my Le Pliage. I might have to go back to the Le Pliage and just wear the saffiano tote as a purse.

That tote is super cute! Your tote bag looks like it would meet all my requirements. Thanks for sharing!

I definitely don't think I need to carry a second COACH tote, and I love bags that are fun and colorful. I have requirements though:

Long strap drop for shoulder carry
Stands up on its own
Somewhat structured on the bottom so it doesn't buckle when loaded
Interior pockets would be nice

I have a large. It is ginormous. I use it for my plane carry on. I can fit almost any purse, a laptop bag, water, travel pillow, scarf, magazines, snacks. Oh and I am definitely missing a few items in there too. Water.... and it fits under the seat. :D

You could do fine with a small or medium for regular use. Open or closed top. And customizing is fun. My custom large tote was like $50.

Super sturdy. Lifetime warranty.

No interior pockets. I think the lands end version does have an interior pocket.
