I am putting in new porcelain floors with a simple mosaic in the entry. I am having it installed on the diag. they are 18" tiles. The installer wants to put the design on the 45, I would like the design centered between the points for a more even look. Is there a typical install method for a four inch border?
Do we have any interior designers here?

i am sorry...i don't understand what you meant by 45? and how does it relate to 4" border??
as a matter of fact you can install anyway you want, if you can afford to waste material. some ways can save more materials and some don't. but it should not be a lot of waste..may be 10-20% max. some contractors are lazy and they want to do the job in the easiest way for the same price.
